Re: 1065: "Shoes"

Do these shoes negatively affect your speed once you get used to them? I would guess the lack of cushioning would force you to slow down when sprinting downhill. I actually seem to walk down-hill faster than I used to (I credit the Vibram soles for this, and you could probably get most of this bene...

Re: 1065: "Shoes"

I, too, have a pair of Vibram Bikilas (without laces). I think for my next pair I might actually get thinner ones. The Bikilas are really the thickest, most shoe-like model they have, especially if you get the laced version. They're extremely comfortable, and are also the quietest shoes I've ever wo...

Re: Unconventional ramdisk setups

I hadn't even thought about latency.. but after poking around, it looks like 10 Gigabit Ethernet latency is way below that of SATA, or even below that of the internal functions on an SSD, so that shouldn't be a bottleneck. Re: Unconventional ramdisk setups

Aha! The idea of Ethernet over PCIe sounds like it could be a lot of fun. The fact that people are indeed working on using PCIe as a computer-to-computer communication method makes me very happy. However, for my purposes (and the purposes of anyone else who wants to try this), 10 gigabit Ethernet lo...

Unconventional ramdisk setups

So I've been thinking about building a computer for a few days, and as a result I came up with a few design ideas... and then some crazy ones I probably could never do myself, but figured I'd post. In the process of putting together a rough idea of a computer I hit on ram disks, and decided I liked ...

Re: I'd like to know the name of this book/short story/comic

Okay. I have three books I'm looking for. I'd have answered some people's questions, but all the ones I knew got answered. 1. I remember some young adult novel about some boy or a boy and a girl, can't remember which, who goes back in time and finds a sword and is a berserker and has to protect the ...
