Re: System properties

Java has a handy method System.getProperty(String) that returns that kind of thing. More detail can be found in the API for System.

Re: Recursion

I'm not here to say that one is patently better than the other, but as someone raised on imperative languages recursion was a somewhat foreign concept at first. I've learned very quickly, however, that it has its place in programming paradigms just as iteration does. Some examples of recursion in my...

Re: Beginning in Computer Science

Honestly, though, how many times have any of you here actually written a recursive function in the wild? M I've written them enough to appreciate that there are times and places where recursion simplifies the method functionally and also conceptually. I've been coding professionally for about 6 mon...

I fail to see how most people don't see how a "live and let live" mentality isn't obviously the way to go. You want to be Christian? Neat, have fun. You don't want to have a religion? Sure, go ahead. The lack of respect many people have for their fellow human beings and their ideas shocks ...

I use one hand most of the time because I find it easier to control the car. Adding in another hand tends to complicate it for me. They're really more things to take into consideration, not outliers. Outliers imply data; what you're talking about are additional variables to take into account when calculating risk. Not the same thing.

What we leave behind is not as important as how we liv...

I think people who don't like memes (or anything, for that matter) simply because everyone else seems to take some kind of humor out of it should lighten the hell up and realize not all of us have to conform to what you consider funny. Conversely, if you think all memes are funny by virtue of being ...
