Re: Favorite home experiments

Hang a sheet from a clothesline and try to break an egg by throwing it at said sheet.

Have friends hold the sheet taut and try to do it.

It just won't happen. This can be explained easily by looking at impulse and momentum.

Good Idea: Playing catch with your grandfather.
Bad Idea: Playing catch with your grandfather.

Spoiler:
Do I really need to explain this? Fine. The grandfather is the object that is being thrown about in the latter.

Re: "Semicontrolled Demolition" Discussion

This comic won't be universally accepted as funny for another 15 years. It takes 23 years after an event such as 9/11 to become material that causes negligible offense by a minimum population. I'll stop pretending that South Park has any real information in it, but I personally find this comic funny...

I recall in Mary Poppins, someone saying that the year was "Nineteen Ten".

Just throwing that out there. (Then again, Nineteen Thousand and Ten is pretty long-winded.)

It sounds like a clarinet mixed with a flute, I'm not sure how you came to that comparison, but I'd have to disagree. The oboe's timbre doesn't sound like either of them at all... If you had a clarinet player play in the flute-high frequency range, and then made it "squeak" less and "...

Nobody I know has heard of Estradasphere , but I'm willing to bet a few people here have. They fit my musical tastes perfectly, in that I have almost no preference for a particular genre of music, so long as the music is well-executed. I guess it follows that music with no clear genre would not be a...

A person can serve 10 years as President, I believe, under current law, if they are Vice-President and succeed the President after 2 years of that term, then run for election and reelection.

Unless there is some trickery in "continuous years" and the answer is 1.
