Re: 1190: "Time"

I know this thread is going so fast that only 3 of you will see this but... I made (yet another) web page that lets you page through the frames. It does not update automatically (but you can add to it). It's not, well, pretty looking. It DOES have a timer so you can play through the comic at whateve...

Re: What If 23: Short Answer Section II

...That regex would allow star names like "Uuuuuuuuu", though, and I'm not sure how to pronounce that so as to differentiate it from "Uuuuuuuuuu".... ...The repeated vowels would have guttural stops between them. Pronounceable? yes. Pleasant? no. But it can be done: http://youtu...

Re: What If 23: Short Answer Section II

I wrote a program to generate star names like Randal suggests, but the results, although pronounceable, were quite unpleasant. This got me thinking, what if you incorporate diphthongs and more complicated consonant combinations, etc. etc., could you get "better" names? Next thing you know ...

Re: "Drapes" Discussion (merged)

Well, here's how I interpreted the comic the first time: it looks like she's wearing a blonde wig over natural dark hair, and the guy sees this. "Carpet" (like "rug") is a slang term for toupee, so I though he was making a derisive pun about her obviously fake wig, and she was mi...

Re: "Purity" Discussion

As a Math major, I fully approve of this comic! This is how I've always seen it (in terms of purity, if not necessarily value in any given context). It reminds me of one of my favorite jokes: A Mathematician, a Physicist, and an Astronomer were riding a train through Scotland on their way to a confe...

Also, what's up with southern Californians saying shit like "The 5 freeway". That's the stupidest-sounding way to refer to a freeway ever. Just say, "5". Or "I-5". We usually just say "the five" or "the four-oh-five" unless it might not be clear we'...

I can't believe we don't have any entries from Los Angeles here yet. First up we have this wonderful 5-level deal at the intersection of the 110 and 105 freeways. Just a few miles West, the 105 crosses the 405 in an example of a well-laid out interchange. Getting through this one is actually pretty ...
