Re: What is "a life" and how do I go about getting one?

Speaking of "lives", this seems like an appropriate place to make the following announcement. xkcd forum-er Jadestone has been grounded from the computer indefinitely because her mother feels she needs to talk to real people or something. So she isn't dead, just in a computer-less living h...

probably *needs to learn more latin* It wasn't so much just word choice though, it was good logic and interesting stories, which is a part of writing.

Re: Johnathan Strange & Mr Norrell

This was one of those books that i finished reading (probably very late at night, because that's when i read), sat there for a second letting it sink in, and flipped back to the beginning to re-read it all.

I absolutely loved it. The bit with the rat was pretty creepy, but beyond that it was great.

absolutely hilarious. i liked it better the second time, mostly because of all the little things i picked up on that i didn't catch at first.

Re: Writers you love for writing

i think all reading is as deep as you want to take it. obviously gaiman's not the most philosophical author ever but i still think it's more than just a good story, although that's certainly all it can be if that's what you want. If Gaiman were to try and create a pleasant world, one not filled with...

it depends on your definition of classical. i'm not thinking of just european rich-people classical, i'm thinking of early music in general. maybe it's a weird definition, but that's how i think of it

Re: Unpopular Musical Opinions

well if you think about it, everything has its roots in classical. not necessarily european baroque-y high-class type classical, but everything branches off of something else.

Re: Recommend one artist

Five pages and not a single mention of Arcade Fire? A tragedy! Or maybe they're too mainstream now? Well, if you don't know them, check them out immediately. hear, hear! arcade fire is brilliant :D i'd recommend sonata arctica. they're currently my favorite metal-y band, but you don't have to like ...

Re: What do you listen to when you study?

Just about anything, but the music has to be there. :D It tends to get louder and faster the later i'm up, so i'll start a paper with say, Dire Straits and end up with Iron Maiden. There are no specifications for subject, except that if i'm doing math, the music has to be the same style. It can't sh...

Re: Unpopular Musical Opinions

Country's one of those weird ones where your opinion is unpopular no matter what you think. I'm kind of in between, which means everybody hates me. :D I do like johnny cash, and i like a lot of blues/bluegrass type stuff that some people classify as country and some don't. Also some people think of ...

Slayer fans-i'm not a big fan of slayer, but it wasn't necessarily the style of music, it just didn't really interest me. what other good thrash/death/slayer-esque bands are there that might be better to listen to? Because there has to be something else out there that i would like. i hate half-likin...

"I'm not that in to Pokemon." Win. :D -The majority of indie music nowadays is boring and repetitive, but sometimes there is the odd gem. It can be repetitive, but i don't really have a problem with that if it's something good being repeated :D -Rap CAN be enjoyable, as can techno and tra...

Re: Unpopular Musical Opinions

It's not the metal that caters to the masses that has balls. But that's usually not really metal anyway (or at least not good metal) People usually get pissed at me about music because i like almost everything. The main thing that i don't like is modern punk/emo stuff like fall out boy, MCR, AFI, et...

Re: Writers you love for writing

it saddens me that gaiman is about as deep as thumbelina's bathtub cos he does write beautifully. "deep as thumbelina's bathtub," while funny, doesn't really describe neil gaiman at all (in my opinion). but he does write beautifully. I also love Vaclav Havel's writing style. He is one of ...

Re: Metal

Metal is just FUN. I like folk metal (Skyclad, Finntroll, Korpiklaani, Elvenking, Sonata Arctica, kind of Dragonforce and Rhapsody of Fire) and then of course there's good ol' Metallica and Iron Maiden. I also like Dream Theater, Helloween, Masterplan, and Nightwish.

Well it's not a big thing any more but i don't think ska will really die as long as there are marching bands. :D Besides, there will always be freaks like me who listen to horribly obscure music and like it.
