Re: Greatest Movie Ever?

Grave of the Fireflies, which was mentioned briefly once in this thread is certainly an amazing movie. I don't think I've ever been so moved by a movie, usually I detach myself from depressing movies, but somehow I couldn't for this one. It just seems so real, I guess. People who are averted to anim...

Re: Magic is about to ruin itself...again

One with nothing was sided in against owling mine decks. That deck won by using howling mine effects (everyone draws an extra card each turn) and an artifact that deals 4 damage to each opponent that has 7 cards in their hand each turn.

Re: Spore: Sep. 7th 2008, And the world goes into Mourning.

I can honestly say that this is the first time a new, non-console game has actually interested me. Between this and Starcraft 2, for the first time I'm wondering if my computer is good enough to run a game I want to play . Well, I've got Riven and Escape Velocity: Override to tide me over unt...

Re: Myst

I've finished Myst and Exile so far, and I'm working on Riven and Revelations right now (it helps to be able to go back and forth if I get stuck on one). Riven seems awesome so far (I've found 4 islands and Gehn's journal so far, not much more, though), and Revelations is just beautiful. I've never ...

Lightning works by ionizing the air with what is called a leader stroke, which actually travels from the ground up to the cloud at the point on the ground that is highest in elevation (technically it's related to the electric potential, Wikipedia probably has more details on it). The ionized air cre...

Say you run this game as Alan, and the payout is 2^n, except 10 heads in a row = jackpot and you win a fixed amount of money rather than continuing. That way there's a definable average winnings, and you can make it cost the appropriate amount. I know it kind of defeats the purpose of the game, but ...

I think it's more the setup leading you than necessarily being sexist, but you really only can tell if you say a woman and her daughter/son, but then that only works if they haven't heard it before, etc.

I was going to go with the parents being gay, so I don't know what that says about me.

I don't know about berries, but I read an article a few years ago about how commonly fished fish are getting noticeably smaller due to overfishing of the larger fish, so it's conceivable that the effect would also be seen in other organisms.

Personally I think that in making this thread you have proven that someone turned your intelligence dial to a '1'. :P Seriously, though, why would you want to be able to predetermine your child's abilities. If you set the dial too low you will always feel bad about the decision you made, if you set ...

without doing more than glancing at the article, can't you run a 3rd party firewall that just blocks the information from being sent out? I am by no means suggesting you shouldn't switch, but there is more than one way to skin a cat. Well that's great for people like us (us meaning the average xkcd...

20/Male/Vancouver, Canada.

I'm going to UBC, I'm in Engineering, but I have applied to transfer to Science for Physics and/or Astronomy.

I play Magic: the Gathering quite a bit and don't play the piano nearly as much as I wish I would anymore.
