Re: dubsola's Chilli

My chili is strictly a meat and pepper affair. No beans. The final product is a condiment-like meat paste. The meat acts as a binder for the pepper and the pepper flavor is all that matters. I don't use much garlic or onion to get in the way. Oregano or other seasonings take you further in the wrong...

Re: Star Wars: Episode 7: Electric Boogaleven

Final thought: what was George thinking when he failed to tell this story in his prequel trilogy? Maybe he wanted to tell a different story entirely , but those plans were scrapped between Episodes 1 and 2. Have you seen this analysis? Might change your life (or at least your prequel perspective): ...

On the one hand, I won't say he doesn't deserve it. On the other hand, it's kind of nice when the Nobel introduces a brilliant writer to a large audience that might never have heard of them otherwise. That's true but 100 years from now he will be one of the most remembered and most mentioned keepin...

new console thing looks incredibly cool or incredibly dumb mattering on what I assume it can do. Re: Star Trek: To Infinity and Beyond

I guess I agree that DS9 is a better series to binge watch than TNG. However, if you ask me to list the best episodes of any Star Trek series, almost all will be from TNG. There were a couple really spectacular TOS episodes too but I think for the most part the best of Star Trek came from Stuart, Sp...

Well I also think the size of DRAM isn't needed when you have an XPoint-like "dimm" a few inches away either. These multi-layer memory technologies will eventually lead to much denser DRAM as well. I'm thinking more of additional layers on top of the CPU die for "memory". Imagine...

Re: Star Trek: To Infinity and Beyond

Plenty of awful DS9 episodes too. TNG is just held to a higher standard. Yesterday's Enterprise, The Inner Light, so many definingly excellent episodes. Q was still cool, the Enterprise was far from a battleship, and science fiction still showed up as relevant from time to time.

Re: Star Trek: To Infinity and Beyond

DS9 was much more into politics than any movie can be. Character drama is a fluffier way of putting it but I would say most of DS9 focused on the relationships of major orginizations to each other. The Klingon Empire, the Dominion, the Cardiassians, all of Star-Fleet even smaller political groups li...

I think, in short, system memory's latency is getting too long and it will move on-dye. 3D XPoint (or some other branding, what's in a name?) will become the system memory and be much larger than today. Disks will essentially be repalced by network storage since the system memory is no-volatile even...

Other times, it is completely worthless or even of negative value (that is, additional consu...

I enjoyed spotting the easter egg of the Yorktown name - the original Yorktown in Star Trek was one of the 12 Constitution class Starships around for TOS (in the original pitch, the Enterprise was named the Yorktown, and the ship itself appears in IV when it's disabled by the probe). Course the Ent...

The movie's pretty good. I didn't hate any part of it.

I guess the villain's motivation is a little incomprehencible and some of the "we're all old friends" stuff seems a little pre-mature but it's fun and more star-trek like than previous movies.

If you had a sufficiently fast camera (readout speed wise) and you could program in focus bracketing, you can get the same results as long as the scene is static.

justiclar is too slow now because there are aggro decks. If you're playing a 10 casting cost minion and lots of cards that interact with him in warrior and priest you'll have plenty of turns for justiclar to be a necessity.

FF8 was a buff-fest physical attack game. Magic wasn't really useful per say, more just something you hoarded. "Cast UItima!? I'd have to leave here, fly half way around the map, and walk over here just to fill up again! I'll just attack for two turns instead, just takes a second..."

FFX you could scroll ahead and see the turn order. It was like ATB but as if it stopped when each person's action came up. It also gave you the option to switch in guys so you could make use of a larger cast. It's not that different than the ATB system (which is my next favorite) other than everyone...
