Re: I need a Game Recommendation

Could always try Defender's Quest: Valley of the Forgotten. It's a bit tongue-in-cheek, but it does at least attempt to have a story.

There's also Defense Grid: The Awakening, though what "story" there is is mostly background fluff.

Re: Hearthstone

It might lessen the burden of being a new player, since you only have two or so sets to catch up on before you have a "full set". On the other hand, as an old player, it makes me even less eager to return; having stopped playing around Blackrock Mountain, basically all of the cards I'd pre...

Re: Gaming fleeting thoughts

I'm still on a Dark Souls kick, and still not enjoying 2 as much as I did 1. Though I did find a very good let's play of the first game where the guy goes very in-depth with lore using both in-game stuff (item descriptions, dialogues, etc.) and meta-game stuff (developer interviews, cut or modified...

Re: Gaming fleeting thoughts

True random number generation does tend to result in streaks fairly often, AIUI - especially when the thing being looked for is "anything occurring more often than one might expect" as opposed to "this particular thing which I specify in advance happening more often than I expect"...

Re: Landing rockets upright is unnecessary?

Cylinders are indeed generally better at taking axial loads than lateral ones. Mitigating it by making the impact not be applied as a point load could help, but between the shape's natural strength axially and the fact that aerospace composites are often much stronger at taking loads that can be bor...

Re: 2015 in review

Undertale , for me. It made me feel many feels (and not all the same feel!), provided what I feel like is one of the stronger arguments in favor of video games as art, and provided an interesting take on a lot of RPG tropes that are kinda taken for granted. Hard to say very much about the game with...

Re: In other news... (humorous news items, etc)

I think the chance of death in childbirth was around 1 in 50 per pregnancy; ectopic pregnancies being the main cause. So that's 2% of all women dying every year from the age 15 to 45, let alone from disease and famine and such. Is cooking really going to kill more than 2% of all women every single ...

Re: Undertale

Highly recommend basically everyone to play this game, but especially anyone who's played classic JRPGs; it's still a wonderful and highly emotional experience if you haven't, but there's plenty of little references and in-jokes spicing up the mix. Mostly, though, it is entirely too good at making m...

Have been poking at it a little bit. An interesting concept, and I very much like that they have a strong incentive to form parties of varied skills while still having a focus, and not just having all your crafters in town and all your murderhobos out raiding. Anyone else getting a bug where workshop mode fails to highlight or allow any interaction with some of the things you've built? Minor issue I'm having, as I start to get more established - is there any good way to locate settlers within your settlements? Any way to make them show up as a compass pip, anything like that? All I've seen for tips are things like "put all the beds in one building so they stay nearby", b...

Re: Fallout 4

So I read that if you scrap things while you're making something you ONLY get the resource needed for the craft, rather than all of them. I have done some personal testing and verified this is NOT true. Specifically, I was making a machinegun turret (which requires 2 Oil), while I had 1 Oil and a G...

Re: US military kills at least 22 in MSF hospital

MSF says the co-ordinates of the hospital were well-known and its bombing could not have been a mistake. Kind of reminds me of the Jon Stewart bit, arguing whether Fox News was evil or stupid - the counter-argument pretty much has to be "Oh, MSF, you woefully underestimate our level of incompe...

One-Way Heroics might fit, though it is turn-based. Relatively short individual games, too, so you don't feel as irritated when something bad happens late in a run. Relatively light on concentration/intense thought-and-planning required, so might be good for while doing something else. Its main gimm...

Gold is mostly from daily quests, I believe; you'll get between 40 and 100 gold for a daily that takes between 3 and ~10 games (so, call it about 10 gold/game), and can be stacked 3-at-a-time in some cases; the gold from playing matches in general is 10 per 3 games, and I believe is capped to 100 or...
