Re: First time laptop for learning perl and python.

This has all been more than insightful, and you all have my serious thanks. Now, as soon as I select a system, how would I go about with the learning to code (not sure this belongs here, but it was part of my title, so, yeah)? Is it as simple a matter of downloading some files off the blagosphere an...

Re: Riots in Egypt

I'm not trying to pick a fight here. But as an American who has always had a soft spot for Israel, I do hope that, come what may, Egypt's relations with Israel hold steady. Ideally Mubarak will be deposed (or, o happy day, step down himself) and those who step into his shoes (hopefully not ElBaradei...

Re: Riots in Egypt

I wonder, idly, if cutting digital communication has ensured that people continue to venture out into the streets to stay in touch with one another. Perhaps if the internet and phones were still running, some proportion of the demonstrators would have dispersed by now, content to watch events unfol...

Re: Riots in Egypt

I'm inclined to agree with that sentiment. The people of Egypt have so far disregarded Mubaraks attempt at placating them with the dissolving of his government. It seems that nothing short of his removal from office will end the protests. As has been pointed out, the military isn't likely to "c...

Ah! This is looking really interesting, different language to start, but I don't really mind what I get my feet wet with. Thank's for the link!

Re: First time laptop for learning perl and python.

Oh, I comprehend. Yeah, I wasn't too worried about the processing power. More along the lines of what I described above. Basically a medium battery, relatively tough shell, and towards the inexpensive side of the price spectrum. I'm only planning on using it for coding as a hobby, maybe a little lig...

Re: First time laptop for learning perl and python.

Well, I'm fairly mobile and I walk everywhere. So whatever I get would need to be backpack friendly, as well as whatever charging gear I would need. I don't anticipate of often needing to use it without a grounded power source, so battery power would be something of a secondary concern. I tend towar...

Re: Seattle area!

Hey, I'm only 300 miles away from there! I'd be down for meeting new folks next time I cross the mountains. Hopefully within the next month or so, that's when I'm already planning on visiting some friends and family that-a-ways. It'll probably be over a weekend, and I don't have a schedule or anythi...

First time laptop for learning perl and python.

Hello all, I'm looking to purchase my first laptop. Primarily for the purpose of learning to code, perl and python to start (soley because I heard they were good languages to begin with). I have been searching online for something that suits my needs, but I have yet to meet with success due to eithe...
