Re: 1235: "Settled"

The US has a fabled lake monster?

EDIT: Oh, OK. There was me thinking that the Loch Ness monster was the only one of note, but lo-and-behold, there's tons of reported lake monsters in North America -

Re: What-If 0040: "Pressure Cooker"

Like Randall points out, pressure cookers do not actually do much in the way of holding in pressure. Some of the bomb's energy will be used in breaking the pressure cooker, but not much, and, sadly, the pressure cooker adds to the shrapnel.

Re: What-If 0040: "Pressure Cooker"

OK, I'll bite - what's the importance of the pressure cooker in making a bomb with it? Judging by the FBI report ( http://info.publicintelligence.net/DHSpressurecookerieds.pdf ), all it's doing is just disguising the bomb - since the examples it gives included significiant quantities of ordinary exp...

Re: 1176: "Those Not Present"

You know, it's almost like I didn't give concrete examples of my experience with gossip and how it has made trash of my life. Of course, you're right! I just need to get over being expelled and driven to contemplate suicide due to false rumors and gossip! Why didn't I think of that before?. You kno...

Re: 1176: "Those Not Present"

To be honest with you, I don't agree with the message of this strip. Why? Well, put simply: there are legitimate complaints to be made about people. It may be that you have a colleague who is incompetent, or it may be you have a mutual acquaintance who is overly sensitive about a certain subject. In...

Re: 1140: "Calendar of Meaningful Dates"

Yeah, judging by the prominence of US holidays over all others, this appears to suffer from a strong bias towards mentions in US-origin texts, probably due to only including month/day mentions. Refactored to include day/month mentions I would expect the 5th and 11th of November to have greater promi...

Re: 0909: "Worst-Case Shopping"

He shouldn't have worried about escaping from a submarine that's 50m below the surface. Without the ability to slowly equalize to the pressure almost 6 atm of pressure, everything in his body would instantly be squeezed. This would result in intense pain... espeically if the ear drums burst. From w...

Re: 0909: "Worst-Case Shopping"

Wait a minute. If I'm escaping from a submarine at 50 meters, then I'll *definitely* need a flashlight to find air pockets for gradual decompression on the way up. Time to start shopping for professional dive lights. Arghh, minor science mistakes annoy me. If you were escaping from a submarine (i.e...
