If they can do a quick interview and possibly have you submit to a field sobriety test simply because you chose to drive down a certain road, it sets a precedent to allow them to set up roadblocks to search cars in search of drugs or stolen property in certain neighborh...

I guess this is difficult to measure, as photons don't seem to decay or anything over time.. no time passes for a photon though, so decay over time would result in no decay ;) if your space ship headed out to alpha centuri at 0.5 c, and looked back at signals from earth it would see them red shifte...
