Re: Screechings of the Great Unwashed (Meander to the Morgue

Hmmm, maybe it's just my observation that's biased then. It could well be that the particular subsection of the internet that I frequent happens to have a high level of pony penetration, so I perceive it as being more prevalent than it actually is.

Re: I Shouldn't Have To Say This

The toilet wasn't unclean to the point of being smelly or looking disgusting, this was someone complaining about it not being spotlessly clean.

Re: Screechings of the Great Unwashed (Meander to the Morgue

I think cancer is an appropriate metaphor for the spread of ponies. It's not malicious, there is no pony mastermind (though that is a good mental image), but the spread is continuous and doesn't seem to be slowing down. I didn't intend to imply that it was killing the internet, but I can see how it ...

Yeah, it's such a shame for her that she doesn't live in a country where the head of state is also the head of a religion and guarantees bishops positions in the legislature... oh, wait a minute, she does!

Re: Magic : The Gathering : The Thread : The Rename

Dark Ascension hasn't grabbed me as much as Innistrad did, but I think it works OK as a development of Innistrad. If DA has a theme, it seems to be creature tokens, which is OK, but not really exciting. Had an exciting draft game on Saturday, I'd gone red-green aggro and my opponent had gone for a p...

Re: In other news... (humorous news items, etc)

Good point, I hadn't researched the legal background here. I've looked into it a bit more since then, and recommend the excellent analysis from the UK Human Rights Blog as that explains things much more clearly than I can. I'd just like to quote from their article, which contains a ruling from anoth...

The ruling doesn't apply to Parliament because Parliament wasn't involved in the case. If someone does decide to bring a similar case against Parliament, the judge in that hypothetical case would most likely take note of the ruling in this case.

My local game shop is going to start running events in different formats over the next few months. It's normally just standard & draft (and release events), but they're going to do a modern one and a pauper one. It'll be interesting to try something new. Random MTG question: Why is Sorin so bish...

Re: Court To Decide Whether Orcas Can Be Enslaved

It really isn't easy to rehabilitate a captive whale so that it can cope with living wild again. This applies to a lot of animals, not just whales. Not taking them captive in the first place is easy, and I'd agree with that, with a possible exception for when a captive breeding programme is the best...

Re: Court To Decide Whether Orcas Can Be Enslaved

The difference between Bolivia and this is that Bolivia granting nature rights was a specific act of the government, whereas this is PETA trying to twist an existing legal structure to apply to orcas. Generally speaking, governments can pass whatever laws they want, even if they don't make sense. PE...

OK, new post for a new story. The UK Advertising Standards Agency have ruled that a Christian group are not allowed to claim that god can heal. The claims were found to be misleading, could encourage false hope and were irresponsible.

I was washing up a cake tin with a removable base. I'd already done the base and set it aside, and moved on to the tin. When I lifted it out the water, I saw that there was a film of soap across the base of it, so blew gently and steadily, and managed to blow it into a great big bubble about 25cm in...

Depends. My workplace is air-conditioned and heated, and the air in here is pretty dry. By the end of the day, my throat generally feels claggy and phlegmy, and it's a real relief to get outside and breath some unprocessed air.
