... Ugh. I understand that it's broke, but my head won't wrap around WHY it's broke. Maybe a few more iterations through what you said.

Thank you for all your effort. :)

Re: You can turn it on? Give me a new hard drive!

My way of summing it up: "I'm a god to the lusers, and a luser to the gods." Everyone keeps praising me "Oh me yarm YOU KNOW SO MUCH!" and then I'm sitting here getting frustrated because I can't learn anything new. It dosen't help that I actually do know more than my teacher (no...

Re: Python Trees not working?

Not really. Let me see if I get this straight: The arguements of insert are as follows; newindex: the index of the new treenode value: the value the new node's supposed to contain; trees containing just nodes are useless node: used internally for recursion purposes, this is the node we're looking a...

Re: Game of life AI

define 'rather small' here for the board size. I like the idea of the gliders, personally, but a glider needs a 4x4 'blank' area in order to be effective. If the board is only, say 6x6 or so, you're going to have a hard time getting a glider in there. another suggestion that might work: if you brute...

Re: Python Trees not working?

My first reaction when I read your post was 'Nuh-uh!' so I went back and went through my code again. My previous thinking still holds, so I guess I'll comment up my code and see if my thinking still falls through. (Apparently, it dosen't, but where it's busted is beyond me :? ) [And I haven't checke...

Python Trees not working?

Okay, so. Since I'm a masochistic little something or other I figured I'd make my own trees class. (I'm actually trying to -learn- said trees, but being masochistic sounds so much better -.-) However, it's not working, and I don't quite know why. class treenode: index = -1 value = "" ltchi...

Re: How many programming languages do you know?

I gave myself 4, because a few of these I'm not sure count as 'normal' languages. PHP SQL ( ? ) Python TI-8x basic ( ? ) LSL (see: Second Life) Java Javascript ( ? ) HTML ( ? ) (sorry, just had to put it in. ;P ) Listed more-or-less from most to least familiar. (TI-8x gets such a high rating because...

I feel like there isn't enough humor in this one to justify a text-only comic. It's a computer geek thing. :) I dunno if it was really worth throwing up on XKCD, maybe a tidbit in the blag somewhere. Dragons Opinions be here: But seriously, I see a lot of people in here voting for popularizi...

EBKAC - no next instruction.

So, I'm not quite sure where to put this, but here goes. I'm looking for help figuring out something to learn. My computer teacher at school (read: college) is abit inadequate, and I already know 99% of the subject material there. (At least, for now.) I've studied CCNA1-2 (and promptly forgotten bit...

Depending on your distro, is there a chance there might be a Tango theme in your repositories? iirc, Ubuntu had a nice selection of themes, Tango mighta been in there somewhere. (I've since switched back to Windoze for my main desktop, so I can't really check..) But, I've got an ubun...

Re: Wondering if I should take advantage of this security hole.

My two cents: Don't use YOUR laptop if you can get away with it. Find a public cafe that dosen't keep logs of who uses their computer. Cyber cafe, library, nearby school (that you don't attend, with an open computer policy) and do it there. Then go through an anonymizer (And Tor if you can swing it,...

Re: Wonderful, computer doesn't make it to POST

I've seen lots of these computers, and unfortunately, i haven't seen a real clear-cut way to fix them. Usually I just tinker with them, and they either cooperate after awhile, or.. don't. That said, take everything that I say with a grain of salt. And maybe a bit of caution, too. -Try pressing the r...

-something's- not setting your IP right, because thomashughes.dyndns.org resolves to 192.168.0.101 Personally, I'd try turning off your ddclient. It looks like your router has built in dyndns support (And if it's stupid enough to send out a private IP to dyndns, somebody gets to go slap D-Link ...

To march in 5/4: You take steps on 1,2,3,4,5,(and). 6 steps to 5 beats of music. In a more DDR-y way of putting this 1 L + 2 R + 3 L + 4 R + 5 L + R Dunno if this has been answered before, reading 4 pages of forum isn't a good idea when you've got bits of python floating in your head. Just a little sidenote. Currently, both the 1-25% brackets and the 26-50% brackets are 'winning.' (I answered without fully understanding, thinking it was some sort of random guessing game. Then I noticed that the 1-25% bracket was bold, and I figured it was a subliminal message. Come t...

I misunderstood #9. I thought since 10 was A, 9 had to be A. However, you can choose any of the answers for 9, so long as it comes up true. (ex 10A, 11B, 12C, etc) EDIT: Current value table. 1 bcde 2 abcde 3 abcde 4 abcde 5 bcde 6 bd 7 abcde 8 abcde 9 abcde 10 a 11 abcde 12 abcde 13 bd 14 a...

Re: My life as a program.

The thing is, I'm doing this as a thinking experiment, not as a working model. A working model would have much more (or maybe less :) ) input, and prioritization would be less important. (It would show the next few things that need to be done, and let you prioritize it yourself.)

This also means you could incorporate your cron daemon setup into this, by giving them an Importance of 100% but an Time Leniency (time before deadline it can be executed) of 0.
