Re: I AM GROOT! (Guardians of the Galaxy)

Well, we are going to get more trailers before the movie comes out. This one featured Drax and Rocket, maybe the next one will be about Gamora and whatshisname.

But essentially what they did was replace Tibetan culture with white American culture. At the end of the day, there's one less Asian character, of which there aren't many in the first place. So, yeah, problematic, and worth mentioning, despite her being a great choice. The bit that really bugs me i...

I accept it could be a problem with the movie and, in fact, I expect you will be right that it is one but I just can't accept that it is a problem with the trailer. I suppose I am really splitting hairs at this point.

Of course there are differences, and I apologize for giving the impression that I think language is the only differentiating aspect. Re: I AM GROOT! (Guardians of the Galaxy)

Because it was funny, colorful, fast-paced and exciting which makes it a pretty good trailer. You are not criticizing it for being a bad trailer but for not including something perfectly arbitrary that only you apparently expected it to include (i.e. lots of dialogue for Gamora).

Mordo is supposed to be Romanian but no one is upset they gave the role to a black Brit. Not the same thing. For one thing, Romanians are white - we have no shortage of white characters, making a white character black isn't a loss for white representation in culture. For another, they replaced the ...

The CGI plant also got more screen time than the main character. Its almost like they only used bits of two short scenes instead of creating a detailed summary of the whole movie. In an ideal world, there'd be a brilliant Tibetan actor (who could be cast without causing friction with China) who could play the role perfectly; in this world, it's hard to imagine someone doing better than Tilda Swinton. I think both shows can't even manage their own casts much of the time so mixing them...

I saw it. Still processing. I was afraid they'd "Hollywoodize" the story too much and while there was some of that going on, I didn't mind too much. They downplayed the science some and beefed up the conflict but that was necessary to reach a mass market audience and they preserved most of...
