Re: Statistics Project: Movie Viewing Habits

As someone who watches a lot of movies without renting them, buying them, or going to theaters, I see a loophole in your poll. Indeed, I saw some movies that my flatmate rented, plus four films on airplanes this year. I don't think that's exactly what Sir_Elderberry was referring to. :P Really? You...

Re: How long until games are photorealistic?

I've noticed two recurring opinions here: 1) We will never have truly photorealistic games because we can't do human animation correctly at all, the reflections are all wrong etc. 2) The graphical level of detail in game X is as good as I want it to get / as it gets / as close to PR as possible wel...

Myst IV looks very good (and was done in full 3D). You just have to ignore the fact that the rendering engine was optimized for stationary reference frames (I promise it is 3D!). If they put the same effort into it as the earlier games, they could have properly integrated the live action and CG to ...

Sometimes images are enhanced by computer. That's quite different to creating a realistic face from scratch. For "The Force Unleashed" they (somehow) took 3d images of actors faces, shoulders and arms, and put them on the IG characters. It's possible they used something like this in the fi...

I was taught that the original use for the hyperbolic functions was that their inverses are the integrals of expressions such as: (a2-x2)-0.5

Also, the graph y=cosh x is the same shape as a piece of uniform string suspended from two fixed points.
