Re: The Darker Side of the News

At half a mil per lie, that does seem like a reasonable path to becoming a billionaire. Particularly when the family works together to distribute the hard task of lying on a daily basis.

I get paid a lot less for (among other things) not lying. Clearly I've chosen the less lucrative route.

that's part of the point for Republicans, though. "Government doesn't work, so vote for me, and I'll go to Congress and make sure it doesn't work!" (and ride that gravy train into the sunset). You say that like Democrats and Independents aren't just as guilty. Us Libertarian/independent s...

Let's clarify: "right play" means Republicans have subverted democracy for the sake of ensuring that the government acts purely in the interests of the powerful. It's the right play for the Republican party, but not for Republican voters, but they will always blame all problems on liberal...

I use Facebook relatively little these days. However, your example seems to still be fairly relevant. People over-represent the good things to present a good image to everyone. It's pretty much the same thing that some people do in real life. Brand new clothes and a false smile on their face, even w...

Re: 2051: "Bad Opinions"

I find RationalWiki an amusing read sometimes specifically because it is basically a catalogue of all of the various obscure bad opinions people have had over the years, many of which I'd never heard of, but once reading about them, I suddenly start noticing people alluding to them everywhere . Hey uh, question. Justice Kavenaugh said that he drank in highschool, which was in Maryland, and he turned 18 in 1983. Wikipedia says that in 1982, the legal drinking age in Maryland was raised to 21. Isn't that like, bad? I'm not really familiar enough with American law to say how bad, but still. ...

I don't dislike the woman. I loathe her husband. She chose him. She chose him knowing what kind of person he was. That says plenty about her. Jose Perhaps. But he chose to be that kind of person. Thus, responsibility rests primarily with him. But yeah, it is odd that the anti-immigration followers ...

Ah, fair enough, we're on the same page then.

If we label them, perhaps, censored vs uncensored media, we might better approximate what he's after? So it boils down to "censorship is good because porn is bad"?

Re: Is adult media inherently better than child media?

Well, if that's the definition we're using, then I have some trouble with "the only difference between adult media and child media is inappropriate content". The common usage seems to be much more about the target audience than about censorship, whereas the OP seems to focus fairly heavily...

A particular adult work is not inherently superior to a child-friendly work. But I'd hold that the domain encompassing adult work is inherently more virtuous than the domain that excludes it, being a superset of the latter. I'm also curious about the idea that porn having value is absurd. If any cat...

Race and behavior are different things. One can choose to behave rudely or not. One isn't given a choice as to what race they are. Treating them as equal would be unfair. I don't really like "it's not a choice" type arguments because they cede the more important factor. Is the thing in qu...
