Maybe the Pokemon makes a nest of leeks? Then the hatchling just picks one up out of the nest when it hatches.... This seems possible, but then ditto throws a monkey wrench into the whole thing. It could be the RNG acting up again. There is a random number attached to the amount of damage you deal, so the RNG could just be higher coincidentally right after they heal. When I do it, I don't notice too much more or less damage either way.
