Re: The Great Recommendation Thread (Movie, TV, Anime, Cartoon)

I don't know the series you're referring to, so no insult was intended. It did seem odd that you'd use a word based on abîmer to describe something you liked. That's kinda why I asked. (If I'd thought a bit harder, I probably could have hit on "typo" as an explanation. It's a neighbouring ...

Re: Miscellaneous language questions

According to wiki , it's a small explosive: While most modern squibs used by professionals are insulated from moisture, older uninsulated squibs needed to be kept dry in order to ignite, thus a "damp squib" was literally one that failed to perform because it got wet. Often misheard as &quo...

I refute that idea. Should we decimate the language, irregardless, as our pregenitors should of proscribed? Like, literally like putting the car before the horse. Sounds like a damp squid, and a mute point, so I'm adverse to it and include me out . ┻━┻︵ヽ(`Д´)ノ︵ ┻━┻ edit after some thought: I ha...

I could be doing chores. Saving orphans. Solving world wev. Instead I'm watching clever clips of instruments that I hate. (Though I'd play with one for a while if it were lying around, naturally. I'd jam with it for one song, then throw it far away while it was on fire.)

Reminds me of fridge, which is a genericised term for refrigerator in Canada/US. I didn't find out that it had (sorta) been a brand name (from "Frigerator" I think) until a few years ago, when I also learned that Australia uses a different word. Except I just looked that up and apparently ...

Re: Stocks vs Broths

I usually use water as the base, if only because proper stock is problematic. (Allergies and other restrictions argh.) Proper stock does add depth and character, for sure. In lieu of stock, I'll fry up the initial garlic/onion/spices/tough veggies in the same pot that will be cooking the soup. It'll...

There are a few bacteria that have propeller-type flagella, according to the wiki . There's actually a decently detailed discussion of "why not wheels" also on wiki . No intermediate forms that would survive competition with the simple and powerful intermediate forms of run/walk/swim/slith...

Looney Tunes, all the way. I think Tom and Jerry might have been my favourite, though Bugs was way up there. He was kinda mean sometimes, though.

Come to think of it, so was Jerry. I learned some poor socialisation strategies from that show.

Asexuality is defined as a lack of sexual attraction, more or less. As in, I'm not heterosexual because I'm not turned on by the opposite sex. I'm not homosexual because I'm not turned on by the same sex. (Also not turned on by any of the other things that some people are - cars, dogs, velociraptors...

Gender can be a strange issue. I'd describe myself as non-gendered, except that sometimes I do feel like a woman and occasionally like a man. And sometimes I can't even gender because what is that. There is correlation between asexuality, a-gender, and autism spectrum. I don't know whether there is ...
