Re: Black Panther

Most of the criticism I've read has been from people who don't appreciate how cool it would be to be directly targeted by a major work of entertainment for goddamn once.

Re: black history

I was reminded today of the history of Hogan's Alley in Vancouver, in the Strathcona neighbourhood in the Downtown Eastside. Wiki article with some sources , excerpts below. A multi-ethnic community existed in a 2x4 block stretch in one of the poorer parts of town from the early 1900s to around 1970...

Can't pick out a six-second location from the original that has no guitar and no vocals, so it might be a remixed or live version. If it isn't this song exactly, then it's been quoted by another artist.

The reviewer understood what the movie was supposed to be about. Her argument was that the general tone and constant fat jokes accomplished the opposite.

In this context, it implies a firing line (standing in front of a squad of gunfolk). I've seen other uses that are closer to "we've got nowhere to run", I think, e.g. "we're up against a wall here".

Phalanges specifically refer to the fingers. The wrist and hand bones are carpals/metacarpals. If you slapped the ball, you were playing metacarpal ball.

God is watching you metacarpate?

The places where it's worst might be the places where women are most afraid of speaking up. And where the power imbalance is the greatest. Don't confuse meditation practise with "enlightenment". Depending on who you ask, enlightenment is an entire shift in one's worldview, one that declares normal daily experience to be an illusion. Full spiritual enlightenment is very difficult to accomplish for any length of time. Most seek...
