Experiment in cooking last night:
Dessert risotto that we podged together based on measurements from a recipe in a cookbook combined with the ingredients we wanted.

It was risotto rice cooked in coconut milk with white chocolate and vanilla..served with banana and toasted coconut.

Yeah...I'm a bit squidgy on specific names sometimes. I just like that chickpea flour tends to be the default--and it's also very tasty with lots of spices in it.

Nath--that's precisely why I love Indian food...there's seldom gluten in curries, Bhaji is usually fine--long live chick pea flour.

It isn't the responsibility of white people to fix it. It's the responsibility of everyone to at least be aware it is happening--which is a big step towards changing. If the next time a movie gets whitewashed, the response from the audience was something like "wtf--that guy was asian in the com...

I actually won't watch those movies for precisely that reason...but then I'd be fine with a black Peter Parker too. It isn't, to be precise, a problem specifically/only with sci-fi. The OP is just looking specifically in this particular genre for works that are not sexist, which explains the slant of the discussion.

I doubt there will be much confusion, particularly after auditions for roles between female actors and male actors. It's simply not something that will cause any real problems.

Re: Non-sexist hard scifi: does it exist?

Another big bothersome element in lots of hard sci-fi, soft sci fi and fantasy is the prevalence of rape/near rape as a plot device. It is pervasive in all three genres and pretty offputting as a female reader in most cases.

Depends on the state of the upholstery--you could try airing it out--doors open, sunny day, let it dry. If it smells funny I'd take it to one of those coin operated wet vacs at a car wash and try that.

No one is suggesting that identifying someone as male or female is sexist--in fact most ...

Yes, saying horrible things about women you don't know is a good thing to do...only...not at all. The sort of disparaging comment you're making only puts more pressure on women to look a certain way. I wouldn't ever ask that question, incredibly needy not to mention subjective. But, if you get asked...
