I feel like with Thor Ragnarok and Black Panther, Marvel has had a run at imperialism recently. This can only be a good thing.

Re: Regional Dialect and Idiolect Oddities (pronunciation)

Cot and caught aren't homophones.

I don't know, I guess they are rhyming? It's just slightly shorter but the same sound. Different emphasis maybe even though they are single syllables? Gone is a longer word for me.

They are very similar, but I spend more time on the o in gone than I do in on. It's the same sound but elongated.

Yeah, he gives a good smirk when the guy in the audience asks what Wakanda can teach the world. I'm glad they gave him something to do in the final battle but kept him away from most of the action. Also, I was really glad they had Shuri actually in the thick of it for a while as well, rather th...

Yeah, the UK always seems to get Marvel movies before the US for some reason. Not that I'm complaining.... We watched it in Imax 3d. Not as great for the fight scenes but great for the scenery. Edit: Also, at the end liked the relevant twist on the African proverb In crisis the wise build bridges an...

It's pretty incredible. The design is absolutely amazing. The women are all strong, well developed characters, as well as background characters as well (all too often do you end up with people making an effort in the foreground and missing out the background). Not afraid of social commentary. I was ...

I am going to throw this into the mix, as growing up I didn't even realise it was weird until I found out literally no one else does it: soy sauce on kraft mac and cheese. Om nom nom. I miss boxed mac and cheese in the UK - you can get it in the Caribbean section but it's pretty expensive so I don't...

Our cat is so cute. She loves pouncing and ambushing our feet, but it's always so gentle. You start walking up the stairs (her favourite ambush spot) and you feel soft paws around your ankle.

This has been bugging me all day. There's a word for things that are done specific for the person that they use in surgery - I want it to sound something like esoteric or eccentric but it probably doesn't and it basically means bespoke. But I can't find it anywhere and I feel like I'm going crazy.

TNG is 100 years or so after TOS so Spock being a mixed race person at that time would have a lot more stigma than TNG.

I haven't watched The Last Airbender; it came to my knowledge when I was an adult and it was apparently too dumb for my demographics (I did see a few episodes before deciding that). Making the fire people brown people is certainly a bad move (I think they are the villains in this story). However, w...

I love how the fact that the rest of the world does something is always negated by the fact that the US is a special case cause it's made of separate states.
