Re: future proof

I've never seen the point of RAID arrays for desktop PCs. HDDs are storage space to me, nothing more. Sure, it would be nice if they weren't slow as fuck, but if it's a choice between waiting 60 seconds for my data to copy, and waiting 40 seconds, I think I'll be able to live with the extra 20 secon...

I've had issues like this on newly installed PCs, a simple reboot solved it. Alternatively, your graphics card drivers/software might allow you to specify custom modes.

The CPU he referred to was an absurdly low power single core CPU.

Oh, I see. Well, in that case, low performance, overpriced. But I assume that's no surprise to anyone.

Re: Buying a new computer desktop -Suggestion please

Why restrict yourself to dual-core CPUs? Because for most people, money doesn't grow on trees. :) I'll second Axman. Dualcore (E8xxx) with a 9800GT or HD4830 should do you fine. If you really want to save money, look into AMD processors, though that is not a corner of the market I am familiar with....

Totally. Abandoning land you've put centuries of time and effort into is easy; recreating that time and effort in the span of a few decades is even easier. Haven't these people ever played Sim City? You just need to click and highlight the new expanses that'll open up and set them to 'farmland'. It...

Re: Getting a new computer VS upgrading a very bad one?

Ah, that changes things. Keep the motherboard, whack in an 8800GT or 4850 graphics card, an extra GB of RAM (cheap as chips these days). Swap out the CPU for a Core2Duo if your board can take one. An E2180 or E2200 is a very good choice, and they're 65nm so more likely to be supported by your board...

Alignment works better in games without a clear story line. Fallout 3 is too linear for it to work.

Come to think of it, has there ever been a game that did alignment well?

Personally, I don't think the price/performance of that video card is worth it. While it's true that it appears to be the best card on the market at the moment, I wouldn't opt for anything more expensive than 2x 4850 1GB. The money is better spent on replacing the AMD thing with a C2D E8500 or E8600...

There is an exception. In Belgium you can be tried for war crimes commited anywhere in the world. But as far as I know Belgium is the only country which has such a law. I think the C2D is above your budget. Switching it for an AMD CPU is probably a good idea (this also requires a new mobo). As for Crossfire/SLI, it's outside your price range and more performance than you're likely to need anyway. Look into the 4830 as an alternative to the 9800, they perform simila...

For motherboards, memory, optical disk readers/writers: get the cheapest you can find. Not what I'd recommend.
