Re: "Parental Trolling" Discussion

Haha evil parenting ftw :-) Pay it forward! the "in" haircut is a double pig-tail with a mohawk? Those gosh danged kids in the future days; when we will have had been their age, we will have had known about fashion! I think her hair is adorable! And where is this mohawk you're talking abou...

Re: Let's get really esoteric: big-endian or little-endian?

Little-endian makes sense to me because it means that the least-significant bit, nibble, byte and word all have the same address. Since the least-significant bit is bit 0, then by extension the least-significant byte should also be byte 0 and in bit-addressable memory, bit 0 of byte 0 should be at a...

Re: Discussion of "Well 2"

Here's the problem with permanently aging, rather than dying, from an old Norse myth featured in a book called Mythology: A goddess loves a mortal man, but he will die in a short time based on her lifetime (compare it to the lifetime of a fly and a person), so she asks the king of the gods(Thor?) t...

I wrote this paper up last night. I'd like comments if anyone has any. I like it :) Very minor (hopefully constructive) criticisms: Some of your reference numbers seem to be off, likely due to the insertion of [2] or [3] after writing the rest of the paper. Equation(s) should probably be numbered t...

Re: guys growing long hair

I've been through the poking-my-eyes phase, the tickling-my-nose phase, the getting-into-my-mouth phase but they were all worth it! I'm now at the pony-tail-swinging-into-the-way-when-I-spit-toothpaste-after-brushing-my-teeth-with-annoying-results phase. If I let my hair loose it gets in my way and ...

I vastly prefer: "1500 years ago, everybody knew the earth was the center of the universe, 500 years ago everybody knew the earth was flat... Imagine what you'll know tomorrow." Today, people actually believe that once everyone 'knew' the earth was flat. It's a sad misconception/distortio...

Hi Kisama! How's the weather in your part of the world? Here a hail storm has just started  Hi Monika! :-) It's hot and sunny here, but luckily I can take refuge in my dim, air-conditioned cubicle 8) I had literally never heard of Tom Lehrer till yesterday, and then I open this thread and th...

Although this is the internet I still seem to have an irrational fear of introducing myself to a large, intimidating group of strangers... I'm 22, male, and from South Africa. When I was 20 I had a (long-distance) girlfriend who was 27, which would be a borderline case of almost creepy, however, my dad's girlfriend was 28 at the time  I'm glad though, because they gave me a cute baby half-brother, which is awesome. :D [/personal_story_nobody_wanted_to_know_about] A...

I thought of a slightly different way of doing it. |0|7| 8 | 9 | |1|6| 11 |10 | |2|5|12/14 |15 | |3|4| 13 |16 | in 12 he doesn't kill the inmate the first time, meaning that cell is not the scene of crime at first. He moves to 13, kills that guy, then returns in 14 to commit the murder and make ...

Re: "Piracy" or "Maritime Terrorism"

I'm shocked at this news, but their true aim is quite obvious! If pirates are considered terrorists then innocent Pastafarians dressed in their pirate regalia will be harassed at airports (and worse.. seaports) and suffer other forms of persecution! This is probably a way to get back at worshippers ...
