Well, verbatim from the problem set:

"To obtain the greatest angular acceleration for a fixed torque applied...."

Obscure branches of math?

I've been looking into spherical trigonometry lately, a pretty interesting branch of trig that seems to have slipped out of the curriculum. I was just wondering, what other obscure, not regularly taught fields of math are there? [Preferably pre-calc, and I already know of linear algebra]

Re: Physics(Mechanics) problem I'm having some trouble with...

Well, I'm still really unsure...The problem's from a test I took, and the presumably correct answer---axis through the rod 1/3L from m---was marked incorrect.

Physics(Mechanics) problem I'm having some trouble with...

The problem goes: Masses m and 2m are connected by a rod of negligible mass. The rod can be pivoted about several positions along the rod. to obtain the greatest angular acceleration for a fixed torque applied, the system should be pivoted about an: -Axis through m -Axis through 2m -Axis through cen...

Yes--Lolita is a very well written book (Don't get discouraged by the premise, it's a good read)
I'd also go with Catch-22, Catcher in the Rye, or Brave New World

Re: has anyone seen "the big bang thory"?

I may have caught a mistake in some of their science-- Leonard is lactose-intolerant, meaning he can't eat things with lactose in them Whenever a food with cheese is mentioned, Sheldon reminds us that Leonard can't eat it, because he's lactose-intolerant But isn't it true that in the process of maki...
