Re: Striving for Mediocrity

If everything is being taught at such a low level it should be easy enough to ace things if people really are bright. If only it were that simple. See my comments about 'teaching the test'. 'Gfited program'? That sounds like a good idea, provided the school staff have a modicum of proffesionalism. ...

Re: Think Before Naming Your Child

Reading up on that Samael guy, he sounds a lot like how Loki is generally regarded by pagans or followers of Germanic or heathen traditions. Some see this type of deity as the ultimate evil. Others think he's kind of cool. Samael (or Loki) might be a cool name for a pet, but I'd rather avoid saddlin...

Re: Striving for Mediocrity

First of all, your parents had the time and money to teach you before you got into school. Probably also passed on strong intellectual genetics. So you got very lucky early on. What you may have viewed as teaching "toward mediocrity" may have been teaching at a normal pace. You just move f...

Re: People's mate preferences are racist. Do we care?

This is an issue that hits close to home for me. I (white girl) was raised by a racist white father and a passive white mother. I thought my entire life that I would only ever want to date white men. Then I was contacted by a Filipino/Mexican (brown man)--through okcupid, ironically. We're engaged t...

Re: Utopian Communism - Can it work?

That sure would be utopia for me. I'd have 3-5 children as quickly as possible and allow your government to pay me the same for staying at home and taking care of them as you're paying Joe Random for his back-breaking 60 hours a week ditch-digging career.

Re: USMC uses music to fight Taliban

Well, think about it. How obnoxious is, say, Indian sitar music with high-pitched ululations, or Mexican mariachi music, to Americans? It goes both ways.

Re: League of Legends

Here's another dumb question. I played a 2v2 player-made skirmish type game for newbies today. How do you chat with the people you're playing with? is that possible? I didn't see a chat window or box like I'm used to having in a game.

ah. This section is a misnomer, I figured it was for help on the site!

My fault. Thanks for steering me in the right direction!

View active topics... not working.

I like the active topic feature in phpbb forums, it lets me browse and reply to active threads without having to click around every single category (gets very tedious). But that feature isn't working on this forum. Any reason why? Is it you or me?

Re: I hate hate haaaaaate my job

Yeah I guess this is sufficiently ranty to fit there :) as long as it doesn't get lost in the shuffle! And it's such a tough time to find a job. I wish this hadn't all happened just now (well, within the past few months I mean). I think a lot of other places may be similar though... no companies are...

I hate hate haaaaaate my job

I work in a call center, have for over a year and a half now. We take calls, many times from irascible customers. I'm so tired of this. I hate my company, I hate the callers, hate my boss and my boss's boss, and it's making me hate my life! I have a wonderful boyfriend who is very supportive and let...

League of Legends

There was an old topic about LoL but I didn't want to necro it. Plus, it's been several months since then and I imagine things have changed. Ergo, new topic. I just installed the game last night and played around with the training mode. I did one actual game before I had to leave for work today. I'v...
