Belated End of Day One Reads&Impressions Disclaimer: I wrote this into a text file over the weekend and posted it as is Disclaimer Two: Don't expect this to be complete in any way. As mentioned before I'm a little overwhelmed by D1, but I also noted how quickly reads seem to solidify. Zen in par...

How does everyone else have this much free time on their hands? Just reading it takes ages and then it all blurs together. Well, if you have the Sash, it'd be great if you could claim so ASAP. Actually, should probably have everyone in their next post definitively claim whether or not they have it. I don't have the sash either. Hi somitomi! What are some of your initial thoughts? I'm particularly interested in your rea...

We need more of this thread. Just because it's pretty:
LHC_CMS_higgs_sim.png
This track is an example of simulated data modelled for the CMS detector on the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) at CERN, which will begin taking data in 2008. The Higgs boson is produced in the collision of two protons at 14 TeV and quickly decays into four muons, a type of heavy electron which is not absorbed by the detector. The tracks of the other products of the collision are shown by lines and the energy deposited in the detector is shown in blue. Image creator : Lucas Taylor.

Most people dont do their own repairs of anything so high price low volume may make sense. For something uncommon like a cassette deck its probably even more the case. I think most people buying old cassette decks do their own repairs, either because it's part of the fun or out of necessity. Exactl...

Less spectacular is the question of standard-drift. Here in the UK, mains voltage used to be 240 volts, is currently 230 volts, and is intended (unless Brexit interferes) to someday drop to 220 volts (to match the European power grid). How long will an old computer remain compatible with contempora...
