Re: In other news... (humorous news items)

I wouldn't mind too much about this as a vegetarian, but there are plenty of religious groups that would definitely be offended by it, and possibly prohibited by their faith to handle them.

Re: Sources for Terrorism Beliefs

I think so, but it's important to remember that distinction and not to treat that as true. To be clear, I wouldn't be surprised at all if there are some people for whom this story is true, but I have no idea if that's a social issue or just a few cases.

Got myself a Steam controller, since I have my laptop hooked to my TV pretty much constantly and I play some non-controller games (Civ VI, FTL, etc.). I saw The Handmaiden yesterday. It's a Korean film by the same director who did Oldboy. The movie's based on the 2002 novel "Fingersmith", but while that one is set in Victorian England, the movie's set in the beginning of the 20th century in Korea. It's dubbed an "erotic thriller&quo...

I don't know if you'll be able to measure it easily, since the temperature change will be mostly around the stomach and pretty far on the inside of the body - while the average temperature will go up, I'm not sure you'll be able to notice quickly. Heartrate is good, but if you're really interested i...

I mean, if it passes, but that's pretty terrible. Could be worse - could be a "no objectionable content" sort of thing, that would mean a blanket ban on lots of vague stuff (usually stuff related to LGBTQ rights...).

I think the morality of Groundhog Day is more complicated, as for the vast majority of the movie Bill Murray is essentially a god compared to everyone else in it, and it's difficult to apply the same moral judgments. It's not like he was told "You can escape if you achieve true love!" and ...

Again, I think in the movie world it's perceived as bad, but for the viewers, it's trying to show that scene as crazy awesome, and I think that's a really bad choice on behalf of the director (whether it's a bad judgement call, a shitty outlook, or something else I don't know).
