Where did SLR go?

Postby Belial » Tue Apr 01, 2008 5:21 am UTC

Alright, everyone. I'm sure those of you who care were wondering where the Sex, Love, and Relationship forum went.

To be honest, it was an experiment from the beginning. We were worried about all the sexual content and relationship whinging all over the forum. We thought about deleting it, but we decided to go for an intermediate solution: we'd sequester them in a registered-user only forum. And then we'd see how it went, whether the whole thing could maintain without turning creepy or annoying on us. We said we'd run it for 15 days, and see what happened.

15 days are up. The mods have discussed, and we don't like what we see. So, much as it pains us to undo that much work, we've consigned that forum to the abyss. Goodbye, SLR, we barely knew ye.

There's plenty else out here for y'all to talk about. Enjoy.

Sad. I haven't been here long, but I thought it was a good forum. It is a webcomic of romance, sarcasm, math, and language after all.

Oh well; we'll miss you, slr forum.

For those who want to go on about the date (I've removed these posts, announcements are for serious and for on topic, guys): Like Belial said, we left it for 15 days in which everyone got angry at each other and no-one understood anyone else, so we made it gone. Two weeks, and then a day for us all to decide.

Really, no big loss.

I must have missed those threads. I guess I was selective in which ones I went to, but I mostly saw mature conversation (well, as mature as the rest of the forum). But if it really did get out of control like that, then I suppose getting rid of it is for the better? Though I'd prefer to still see it here.

Also, I hate never knowing if something's an April Fools Day prank or not. I always have to wait until the next day to really know for sure.

We mods have had a thorough and exhausted discussion about this subforum. Unfortunately, there's not much room for convincing us otherwise at this point.

Oh thank God. It was getting to be a real hassle trying to read all of those threads and act as a responsible magistrate.

So all the threads that were in that forum have been deleted or they've all been put back where they came from?

We've moved the entire subforum into a holding place inaccessible to the public. We're looking over the threads and deciding what to do with them. Most will probably be deleted or at least held back for an indefinite amount of time. Some will probably be merged back; we're just not sure yet.

Will we be getting back the threads that existed in General and were moved upon the subforum's creation, at least? There was some good, sensible, mature, and enlightening discussion there and it's a shame to see it all caught in the forum nuke. Are we no longer permitted to discuss these topics in General, or is this a reversion to what General was previously?

If the thread had a lot of good discussion and information in our opinions, it will likely be back. However, we won't be digging too much.

I lol'd ;)

I did kinda expected it to be a joke tho. it was too much coincidence.

Also, I was very surprised to hear it was "too much work for the mods". If that were the case you wouldn't allow a woman thread to exist, splitting THAT is a lot of work, for instance. That's where I got suspicious actually. It just didn't make sense.

Ohwell, it was a joke...

I'd hoped that the sub-subforum was gone for good, if only because it had hidden all of the sex, love and relationships threads from me - I personally don't like too many subfora (as it involves either loads of tabs for everything, or missing most of them out the majority of the time), but haven't been able to voice this meaningless opinion in the site/forum issues subforum.

Back to just lurking in general, it appears. :|

I did have my suspicions, but I was rather miffed when it didn't come back after April 1st. The mods here are pretty reasonable, and it seemed highly uncharacteristic of them to actually remove the subforum without notice or discussion with the community. I was frankly kinda dismayed when it appeared it wasn't a joke, as I thought you guys were cooler than that. I figured it was worth the risk of making a fool of myself for the sake of speaking up for what I believed in. Happy April from a Fool. I'll get my vengeance someday, though I'm really not sure how I'd go about pranking the mods...

Lies -- it is now the LSR forum, instead of the SLR forum.

Utterly unrelated.

Have a pre-written answer. The same one you would've gotten if you HAD voiced that opinion.

Myself, from S/FI wrote:If there's no forum, people bitch that it needs its own forum because there are so many topics. They tell me to make a forum.

If it gets its own forum, people bitch about the existence of the forum, or about there being too many forums. They tell me to get rid of the forum.

If it goes on the top level, people bitch about having to scroll too much on the main page. They tell me to nest it somewhere to solve their problem.

If it goes in a sublevel, people bitch about having to scroll more in the parent forum. They tell me to move it to the top level to solve their problem.

There is something liberating about being considered wrong by roughly an equal number of people no matter what I do: It means I can do whatever the fuck I want and the end result is the same: some people are satisfied, some people are pissed off, and most don't care.

Cheers.
