Just some clarification on colors

Postby Internetmeme » Wed Oct 14, 2009 8:51 pm UTC

So, I posted in a thread about a cop that beat someone up for a second time.
viewtopic.php?f=9&t=46411#p1823940
I used red in the post for two words.
Someone said this is a reserved mod color (I assume for Belial?).

Can we still use this color if it is clearly not a comment a mod would insert into the text (Plus, don't they usually put a small "-<Mod initials>" in?)?

I understand not writing complete sentences in red, or the whole post, however. That would surely cause confusion.

No, red text is a reserved colour for all moderators. Please don't use it, even a little. But CM is right about MrGee doing the wrong thing by derailing the thread about you using it.

Okay, I just won't do it again, then.
Thanks for the clarification, LE4d.

What is meant by "red", exactly?
I don't know what I'm doing most of the time.
Example: I often hit "quote" instead of "edit".

I was thinking something along the lines of it would being red if R>a.(G+B) and b<(least(G,B)/most(G,B)), or similar, for values of a and b of maybe 2 and 0.5, but perhaps some emperical fine-tuning of those values would be necessary.

Alternately, in HSx form, Hue should be within 0±30°, maybe Saturation>50% and depending upon the triad being completed by Value, Brightness, Intensity or Luminosity, perhaps some other modifier.

But I expect even that process of hunting down the 'true' band of reds to be awfully subjective and artistically fractious.

Best definition I've found so far:

Unfortunately, I can't find "Number by Color", Part 5, SciTech Journal 6, p32, May/June 1996, so I can't verify how rigorous that definition is.

Yes.

The spirit of the rule is to keep people from confusing non-mods with mods. The spirit is what is enforced more than the letter.

With that, I think we're done here.
