Could someone give me an example on how you would apply calculus to analyzing algorithms?

One (admittely kind of indirect) way calculus can help you with algorithms is determning the order of complexity of functions.

Another way is using taylor polynomials to represent Transcendental functions (like Trig functions). Although again, admittedly, this may be more of a case of algorithms being used to help calculus rather than vice-versa.
