Connotation Counting

Postby Knee Jerk » Mon Nov 10, 2014 7:17 pm UTC

There apparently can't be enough "count to a million infinity" threads, right? So, in this one, you don't post the number. You post a word or phrase that causes the connotation of connotes that number. Edit: Not word-names, though (like "dozen"), but independent words that have other meanings.

The first poster will write: "1. nose", because most beings have only one nose. (Hey, you got a link to an animal with more than one nose then I'd like to know about it. :) )

et cetera for number 2, 3, et al. We're counting by integers, but it might be okay to let a "pi" in... let's try to keep things rational here. *bows for applause and laughter*

What to do when the number connotations run low? Suggestion time! Maybe Google searches. We'll figure it out.

I'm hoping these will be things that might be unarguable for that number, maybe even to be almost indistinguishable from that number (where possible).

There's no requirement to explain your choices, but you could, and others could ask. Because I might get curious and like to know.

If there's a disagreement that someone's word should not be considered correct for that number, either figure out a friendly resolution or let it be (as it's only a game).

This post is post zero, btw. My word is 0. anti-matter.

Edit: add numbers to your word. (I thought it would be neat to just have the word, but it's all kinds of confusing in here, so we'll keep track with those weirdly shaped arabian characters.)

Okay... I don't know what that is. But it's the same as the rest of the games, one word per post, probably avoiding double posts (unless it gets real slow?).

This shouldn't be transitory rankings or anything like that. More like universal number truths.

For one I'm doing: nose.

Yardstick.

Aarex, you don't have to squeeze Mixel references into everything. Most of us have grown out of toys like that.

So, I had to look up what it is you're doing here. Some sort of LEGO, maybe cartoon?

Hmm, I'm wondering if we need to attach numbers to our words. Is "yard" your number 3, bachaddict?

It's not the growing out of, it's the appropriateness. Probably better used in a more open topic, or one about Mixels (apparently).

Yes, yardstick was 3. I was ninja'd so maybe I should change it.

bachaddict, you can leave it. We're in the middle of our murky thread beginning. It is what it is, but if you want, you can edit the number in.

Envelope Generator wrote:his pipers
bachaddict seems to think this was also "3". I don't know what this phrase means. Can you clarify?

Vytron, is "opposites", 2? It should be 2. That's a good one two.

So, yes, please label your word with which number you're posting.

I think "four" is open.

4. death (that's the well-known japanese word, death sounds like their word for 4.)

Is that a close enough connotation?

I like Yardstick, so I'll leave it in. Would have been nice to have numbers matching posts, but we'll manage :)
