The previous number was an integer, and this is not. Thus, they are different.

The previous number was finite, this number is transfinite. Therefore, they are different.

The previous number is larger than 100, and 42 is smaller. So they are different.

The previous number was a multiple of 7. This one isn't. Therefore they're different.

BB2(5)

The previous number was computable. This one isn't. Therefore, they're different.

Edit: The previous number was less than the Great and Terrible Tethrathoth, but this one isn't; therefore they're different.

Technically, that's not a valid reason for the two numbers being unequal.

Say, if I posted 4098 and you posted BB(5), then the two numbers would probably be equal - even though BB(5) is uncomputable.

Then again, BB[sup]2(5) > BB(4098) > BB(5) > 4098 > 42, so you were definitely correct in saying that the two numbers are different (even if your reason was invalid).

Anyway:

1/2.

The previous number is an integer, and my number isn't. Therefore they are different.

123456789/2

The previous number multiplied by 2 is 1. This number multiplied by 2 is 123456789, which is greater than 1. Therefore they are different.

√3

The previous number is a rational, whereas this number is irrational, therefore they're different.

(3008/11)i

The previous number is real, and this number is imaginary, therefore they're different.
