The madness has inspired me to start reading Discworld (okay, that had a lot of influence on me too, but you know what I really mean) again and I am realising:

a) I missed a lot of the jokes as a 13 year old the first time round.
b) The books had a serious role in shaping my world-view, to the point that it's freaking me out a bit reading them now.
