### Collatz Counting

In this thread we reduce numbers to 1 as per the Collatz conjecture.

Take the previous poster's number. If it's even, divide it by 2. If it's odd multiply it by 3 and add 1. Repeat until the number is 1. Then the player who reaches 1 can post a new number to start with.

Example:

1124

562

281

844

422

211

634

Start with 634.

If it looks like a duck, and quacks like a duck, we have at least to consider the possibility that we have a small aquatic bird of the family Anatidae on our hands. –Douglas Adams

### Re: Collatz Counting

Wait, it's a conjecture, which means we could be here forever! Though it seems it's fine for small numbers, and that finding a counter example would make us famous! ~~So I'd suggest that if someone posts an already posted number they can change it to one that hasn't been posted yet~~ (eh, this becomes prohibitive once we get many pages...)

Also, pretty sure the conjecture has been verified at the very least up to a trillion, so as long a we stay under that we should.

I guess when a power of 2 appears the ending is nigh, isn't it?

Strange, it took a really long while for the page to load and when it did your post was already there.

I have a dream where this blows up and we go up to the 10ks.

Don't worry. I think that the most you can reach from a two-digit number is 9282.

Fun fact: 20 is the number of zeros in 10^20

Getting to +9k would be awesome!

Too bad we're down to 1 digit, I guess it's ending very soon...

4 more to go! We should start with a bigger number next time.

### Re: Collatz Counting

Not sure, the most appealing thing on this game seems to be to start small and end big (as much as "ending" can get, considering we always end on 1) but I guess it's fair that the person to post the 1 decides.
