Tamagotchi I saw a couple of times on the playground. I know of Furbies but don't think I saw anyone with them in school.

I don't know what Gogos or Slizers are.

*looks up*

Oh, Crazy Bones. Don't recognise Slizers though.

Kind of Transformers-y.

Oh, you know what we had? Beyblade. They were everywhere.

Beyblades were always weird to me, because they were the thing you saw in toy catalogues and could never imagined anyone buying (I was a bit too old for them), and then there was this TV show that suddenly tried to steal all the attention from Pokémon as if it wasn't just a quick money-grab attempt and a way to promote the toys. At least with Pokémon, I thought, there was there was this pretense of giving extra depth to the games, but Beyblade was just toys with a story.

I was a pretty cynical 11-year old.

(I probably hadn't heard of Transformers or other earlier toy TV shows, in case you wonder.)

Then when I got to know younger people in university, we noticed a definite schism between those born before 1993 and those born after, where none of the people from the older half know anything about Beyblade, and absolutely everyone from the younger one knows everything. It was a pretty fun conversation.

I never really thought that the American Generation X/Millennials terminology described generations in a way that reflects reality, since I associate most closely to people born in the 80s and early years of the 90s.

In my opinion, what they should be talking about are the pre-Beyblade/post-Beyblade generations.

Neither does Britney Spears or her deceased lover, yet she cries out the lyrics in desperation, hoping that he might come back to her one more time. That's what makes Baby, One More Time is one of the most emotionally draining pieces of art ever to be created, rivalled only by works like Schindler's List and The Stranger.

I'm actually dyslexic when it comes to regular card games. Or strange ones using regular cards. I can't understand them and I feel really bad listening to someone trying to explain how simple the rules are.

That's way too involved for me to care, but I don't doubt I could learn it in time.

Normal cards are super abstract, though. And there are all these terms that people assume everyone knows. I seriously worried I was going to fail my combinatorics course because of it. Luckily they defined every card term they used in the test.

Combinatorics as a whole was always difficult for me, at least when it came to word problems. Tell me to count the number of objects in this-and-that subset of that injection and I can do it without any problems. Ask me about the ways to seat people at a table. however, and I struggle.

The real world is too abstract.

I mean, I can do it now, but learning how to abstract combinatorial problems took me years. I have never had any trouble with other kinds of word-problems either, so that's not it.
