You Must Not Say Duck: Team Edition

Postby The Snide Sniper » Fri Nov 04, 2016 4:51 pm UTC

Same rules for "saying [a] forbidden word" as the standard edition. Now, there are two teams:

  • Team Penguin: scores points from not-saying-duck streaks.
  • Team Duck: scores points from not-saying-penguin streaks.
A streak scores its respective team points for the square of the number of posts in it.

There must be at least two valid posts between every two posts from the same user.

So do we have to choose teams when we start, or can we just switch to the penguin-ing team whenever we want?

It looks to me that the teams are abstract entities that do not necessarily have hard and fast real people members. The teams gain points depending on the content of the thread, provided by real people, but real people do not actually belong to either team. That said, you may perhaps be a fan of one of the two teams, and root for it to win, and attempt to aid it in doing so. But just as rooting for the Cubs does not make you a Cubs player, you are not a penguin player.

Can you make it count streaks currently in progress?

Hm. Cumulative scores, or not? Squaring implies wanting cumulative scores, but I think it might be more fun to only compare recent scores. Perhaps as a compromise, the score could be cumulative for the past N streaks, but no further back? It should also keep track of the highest scoring streak on record, of course, but not add it in the the current score unless the record was recent (as defined by N, whatever N might be).

I tentatively suggest an N of 5.

I don't get why none of you are for the Duck team. It's a good team! Really!

Penguins are far cuter than other aquatic waterfowl, including swans and geese. They're better swimmers too, it's like they can fly underwater!

Foxes like what they like because they've encountered such. They've never encountered penguins before... I bet foxes would LOVE penguins if they'd ever met a penguin. Simply adore the little guys.
