Count up in base 2.5

Postby patzer » Mon Jan 02, 2017 6:19 am UTC

Exactly as the title says, in this thread we count up in base 2.5.

1.

Spoiler:
I changed the purpose of this thread because it was a duplicate. Original post is below, for archive/historical purposes:

Inspired by username's similar thread.

You get one point every time you are the first to post at the start of each year. Years start at midnight UTC.

Now, forget this thread exists... until January 1, 2018 that is...

One more rule: the consolation prize. Every player gets a consolation prize of (0.5*(0.88^(s))) for their first post in the thread in a given year, where "s" is the number of seconds since 00:00:00 UTC, 1 January, provided that they haven't already won the main prize that year,

In practice, of course, this means that if you post more than a few seconds after midnight then your consolation prize will be negligible.

Example: PlayerA posts at 00:00:01 UTC, 1 January 2018. PlayerB also posts at 00:00:01 UTC, 1 January 2018, but their post is displayed below PlayerA's post. PlayerC posts at 00:00:08 UTC, 1 January 2018. PlayerD posts at 00:01:13 UTC, 1 January 2018.

PlayerA gets a full point for being first.
PlayerB gets (0.5*(0.88^1))= 0.44 points.
PlayerC gets (0.5*(0.88^8))= 0.1798 points.
PlayerD gets (0.5*(0.88^73))= 0.000044 points.

Right. I hope these rules are simple enough.

Finally. For the sake of fairness, no points can be won in this game during the year 2017. You'll have to wait a year before playing :)

7 is most definitely not respresented by 22, nor is it "one of the easy ones":
