Where in the World is Lavender?

Postby Lavender Manna » Sun Jun 11, 2017 12:22 am UTC

Hello, and welcome to Where in the World 3.0! This game has a long tradition spanning back to the early days of the forum.

Rules
  • I am lost somewhere in the world, and you must find me!
  • I will post a screencap taken from Google maps street view with any information regarding my location edited out
  • Players collectively have 20 yes or no questions to ask me in order to find out where I am
  • Each question asked must be seconded by another player before I will answer it
  • If no one wins within 20 questions, I will start posting hints. But that still means y'all lost :P
  • The first person to guess my exact latitudinal and longitudinal coordinates and/or post a Google maps street view screencap matching mine wins the game
  • The winner then picks the next location, uploads an image, and answers questions, continuing the cycle

For an example of what gameplay looks like, check out the very first thread: viewtopic.php?f=14&t=54759, and the first thread of the first revival: viewtopic.php?f=14&t=100571

Now, let the game begin!

I'll answer after you get seconded, but to clarify: You mean on the eastern side of the prime meridian?

I think I prefer this question:

I'd rather do the hemisphere one first. I second heury's question (assuming "yes" to the clarification).

I initially meant east of hawaii, but prime meridian works too.

east of hawaii and east of the prime meridian are two entirely different, almost opposite things. That said,

Are you in the CAR, Chad, or Kenya?

edit: Actually, out of all the countries that are left, the only major area left on Google Streetview is around Kampala. So I'll ask this question instead:

Are you further north than the line of latitude 0.33 degrees north?

(i.e. north of this line)

Not am official question I am asking yet, but is it within 50 miles of Kampala? Maybe adjust the radius we are looking at?

Hmm, I don't think that would be very helpful, as it's not an even split. The vast majority of the areas we're looking at are within 50 miles of Kampala (the only other bits with streetview between the equator and 0.33 degrees north are a few small areas in Kenya).

I would suggest this question:

Are you further east than 32.567 degrees east? (this line)

Search continues south and east of the lat/long lines denoted by pins. 5 miles of Kyambogo Univ approximated by radiating red lines, marking off a basic "do not search" circle. There are two small areas to the south of this picture (not shown) that I think I've looked through and not found her. Also do not believe I saw her in the outlying area to the east (shown in pic). So she is likely in the Makindye area(ish).

No question to ask quite yet. Searching a few areas first.

Eh, why not, I'll at least propose a question.

Counting the bounding roads as "within" the area in question, are you located within the shape bounded by the red outline in the map below (ignore the little tails at top and bottom that aren't part of the shape itself)?

b.png

That's Lukuli Road at NE and Salama Road at SW, in case you need street names.

Anyone have objections to that question?
