economics 101

Postby phillip1882 » Wed Sep 06, 2017 5:05 am UTC

in this forum game, we will play 2 games with fictional money on the line. I'll represent the government.
in Game A the government has a fixed money supply, 10,000,000 but can tax.for the purposes of this game, the tax rate is 10% of the purchase of any item not owned be the government.
in Game B the government has the ability to print new money, starting at 10,000,000 and increasing by 10% per year, but can't tax.
players must acquire money by providing goods and services to the government, and afterward, each other. you can choose either game, but please state which game you are playing at the top of the post. this is an experiment to see which system is better, one with inflation but no taxes, or one with taxes but no inflation. every 100 posts after this one will be considered 1 year. the player with the most money after 1 year adjusted for inflation will be the next "president".

Economics, eh? Can I do identical actions in each game simultaneously and see which scenario my strategy works better for?
Anyways, I'll start with Game A:

I will start a business manufacturing Guns and Butter from raw materials.

Cool, so do I just spam posts now? Or is it your posts? What do I do besides randomly blow stuff up in my research facilities?

I can go for 5000/year to rent 20 kittens, if they are already trained. I'm not paying you for any time I have to spend training laser kittens.
If it's more pricy than that, I can't afford enough of them to make a real impact in the tree cutting business.

What? He’s expanding!

My lazer kitty’s become very artistic, and very recorceful. They begin to make nano-nano-chips with their lazer vision. And fine art.

Hey, Peaceful Whale, would you be interested in museums to house your fine art? I could build those for you.

I don’t think I’d actually make any money off that, it would be better to start a quartz/ marble mine and build my one with lazer cats.

I’ll buy part of your land if it happens to have a quartz mine in it, depending on the quality of quartz, and size of land, I’m willing to trade you more lazer kitties/money.

I guess I'll start a geological survey to look for quartz.

Also, if you don't want to do the museum thing, I will. I'll offer you 4,000/year for artwork if you sell it to me instead of the government (more than the
3,000 the government is willing to pay).

Excellent!

I start building museums, displaying the fantastic artwork for a moderate entrance fee. Over the years, as I get more and more art I can build and fill more museums. This should give me a steadily increasing income source, even if it starts small.
