xkcd City

Postby Billy5545 » Tue Nov 21, 2017 10:09 am UTC

Based on the xkcd Skyscraper thread, in this game, you must add any places or structures in a city. It can be anything, and it can also be realistic or not. Anyway, I start

Structure 1

The city hall. It is regular for the most part, except for the gif flag

Structure 9

A huge, floating mall. The mall sells all kinds of products from all eras, from the past to future. And with everything, we mean literally everything, even illegal ones

Structure A: a monument to the argument about what base we are numbering structures in. It's hard to discern what it looks like, because it's entire surface is covered in numbers and other markings resulting from groups on opposing sides of the argument trying to enforce their view through vandalism. Curiosuly it seems like there was a minor splinter group insistent on calling it "kilroy was here"
"It's like he's his own alt account. Saves all the logging in and out."/poxic
they/them/theirs = he/him/his ❖ If you want to use something else out of dadaist spite, I won't mind.

New building: The Feminist Debate Building. Where feminists argue about sex and gender, roles of women in the workforce, how to identify as a feminist and what to do about other races/radical feminists. The building is composed entirely of rooms with doors that can lock (Because everybody wants their door closed during a heated private debate). Every room is filled with feminists debating the minutiae of their craft and they never, ever agree because women are not a monolith. So the endless feminine debates rage on.

Structure C is a huge arena for laser-tag, airsoft and paintball games. It covers a full square kilometre and is at least ten storeys high, with bridges, tubes, ladders, water-slides and even zip-lines included in the game zones. The exact number of floors is unknown, due to the difficulty in keeping track of depth in the subterranean levels, which get more and more convoluted as people penetrate deeper into them. One expedition mapped over 100 km of underground passage during a week, then found that their maps could not be combined in a single model using Euclidean geometry, and have since declined to return for another try. Quite how that Paladin of Selûne got in there, nobody knows, but she's turned out to be a good sort, so we don't mind.

New office building: The House of Therapists. They've got every kind of therapist: Confrontational ones, submissive ones, soft-spoken ones and loud ones and joking ones and serious ones. And every room is filled with patients lying down on the couches and discussing their problems. The building gets paid a lot of money by its clients so as a result has very good infrastructure and furnishings. Though the cheap therapists charge less so most people that come to the building choose a cheap, nice therapist.

Structure 10 has a sign next to it pointing out that it's structure 16 in base ten. Next to that sign is another pointing out that it's structure 20 in base 8. It consists of vertically-stacked three-storey houses, each with a sloping garden on the south side, sized and angled so that its shadow never quite falls on the garden below. On the north side, there is another sign, explaining that "stick it where the Sun doesn't shine" does not mean dump it in their bicycle parking area.
