Ikariam-xkcd Alliance-Join Today!

Postby Aluminus » Tue Feb 26, 2008 5:25 pm UTC

Along the lines of the NationStates and MyMiniCity themes here on xkcd, I introduce "Ikariam". Ikiriam is a browser-based real-time strategy similar to "Age of Empires" but with a bit of "CyberNations" thrown in. If that makes any sense.
Players have a town, and they expand their town, possibly trading with other towns or going to war with them. Alliances are possible. I think an xkcd alliance on this game could be fun.
I've been playing for all of 30 seconds three days now, and it looks good.

Anyway, it's from a group of German game developers (Gameforge). the English version was unveiled a few months ago.
If you want to check it out, I encourage it.

I'll be Aluminus on world Epsilon (67,37). If you want to be part of the xkcd Alliance, you'll need to be on Epsilon server (world). It's mostly empty now nearly full so reserve your space today!

Some info from the Ikariam discussion board:
Alyiakal wrote:People who are good at math don't buy wine. They SECURE their own supply of wine with a colony.
Unlike all other resources, Wine is consumed at an hourly rate, and if not maintained indefinitely, your population will suffer. A good player will make sure they have a secure supply of wine, rather than risk growing too big, and then having the booze run dry.

I searched for your name, and it turns out you're not on Epsilon, so we won't be able to trade, or ally. An Alliance only works if everyone is on the same server, I should have mentioned that. They open new servers every couple of weeks because the game was so popular in Germany, that 17 000 people have started playing the English version in the last 3 weeks alone.

Oh sorry, I'm on the delta server I think. Bummer.

Edit: I deleted my other account and switched serves so I'm on the Epsilon server too. I'm at Oughauos [39:40]. I set it up exactly the same so it's just the location that's differnt.

The problem with this game is that I keep wanting to walk away from it and not come back until I remember suddenly to check up on things and to do more. :(

Updated. Welcome aboard. Give your town a cool name. Click on your town hall.

Edit: The Alliance is not created yet but:
The Alliance system in this game is very sophisticated, and it will be interesting to see who will want which post: Up for grabs is: Interior Minister(Can assign ranks, admit new members), General(Military duties ie: coordinating troops/warships), Diplomat(Receives messages sent to the alliance, manages alliance agreement for members)

I'd be alright with diplomat, being anything else would take up too much time that i dont have, and i'm pretty good at talking people in circles during negotiations.

So I've run into a slight problem; I accidentally pillaged a town with three slingers but I appear to have done nothing to it and I couldn't figure out how to cancel the pillage as I don't understand the German on there. But now some random person is attacking me. Does anyone know what will happen to my town at this point?

If you read the FAQs it says that the worst that could happen is that they will occupy your town for a while and then leave.

We need people with marble. I just realized how important it is. Right now we only have wine and sulphur towns, hopefully that will change. It's good to see more people have signed up, my embassy will be built in a few days time, and from there I will found the Alliance.

True. That is another limiting factor. As well as the fact that we need to donate a couple of diplomacy points to strengthen the Alliance. (As leader, I would be obligated to put in a large investment to start up the Alliance.)

My friend Rob(Great White 14) just signed up. He has a Marble quarry on his island, he will be our in-alliance marble source. Other marble traders are corrupt, because of its rarity and importance in the game. I'll get in touch with him and tell him about how valuable it is, and how many towns in the alliance there are ready to trade in the next week. In order to be able to trade, you need to increase your research.

I just sold 350 wine @ 17g. (it costs 8g to produce)
I just offered to buy marble at 15g (he put up the price as 20, but players don't often refuse offers, it is instant cash after all)

Guide:
Building Materials: Don't bother buying or selling.
Wine: 15g-22g (Prices will go up. Required for POPULATION GROWTH)
Marble: 20g-30g (Prices will go down. Needed early on, but market will saturate as server ages.)
Crystal: 15g-27g (Prices will fluctuate, impulse buys will be profitable for sellers)
Sulphur: 15g-20g (Prices will go up. Required for WAR)

Trade: Luxury goods will often trade 1:1. More likely, you will get 2:1 Wine:Marble (popular trade)
Update: At current rate of expansion, I should be able to found the Alliance xkcd [Tag:xkcd] on SUNDAY MARCH 2

I'd prefer if you guys would link to this thread instead of the ikariam site, so the person actually knows what the heck is going on. I think the info in the OP is enough to lead them into the game anyway.

Stats as of evening FEB 28:
Level: 5
Population: 188
Gold: 92
Wood: 20
Wine: 48
Marble: 265
Crystal: 250
Sulphur: 29

I'm poor at the moment, I really am spending it as fast as I make it. This is all for the embassy of course.
