I can't think of anything at the moment, but one that's very useful is a clothing rack I made. It looks very ghetto but it held a lot of clothes and is still standing after....5 years and counting It also created more space because I was able to put boxes on top of the rack.

Or would you always choose one or the other?

I was thinking that the bookstore would be better, due to my interest and friends' lack of interest in such things... But in the case of a pressing situation with several sides, I'd probably choose the acquaintances option - provided that every person (or most people) with a hint of knowledge or informed opinion was included.
So X would have to be rather large, I'd say, to take my vote. It depends on what situations I find pressing at the time.
