Actually, my true one was number 2. The key mistake in 1 was "accepted". I was only, as warriorness said, waitlisted. Which is different.

And I've only been in Mexico since the end of July, so not quite a year.

But since I've been spending most of that time in hostels one place or another, I meet lots of travelers. And I ask them how to say I don't speak their language, in their language. So now I've got over 20 of them. :-)

If you're asking why I was ejected for playing chess the answer is simple: We were teenagers in a mall not buying anything. Ignore the plethora of older (and "older") people not buying anything. Ignore the fact that the mall was nowhere near capacity. Obviously teenagers engaging in chess is a dire threat to capitalism and tranquility in our society.
