Chess: game 3

Postby no-genius » Thu May 24, 2007 11:30 am UTC

I think the last game is over by now. I'll start, because I thought of it first

Edit (thx yy2): Rules:

  • Only valid moves count (follow the thread for castling/en passant/etc; feel free to comment on which state was valid)
  • You cannot play until the board changes position twice since your last turn (corollary 1: you can't make this a one on one game; corollary 2: You can swap sides while playing)
  • Brains only, please

Looks like white won't be castling this game.

As soon as UmbrageOfSnow finds this there will be no shortage of moves. I'll bring it to his attention.

I thought about that, but since white is so boxed in, I figured it'd be best to keep black's queen around.

You do realise you just left the queen hanging right? I would play from yy2bggggs' position, however I was the player before him.

Fine, I will move, having analyzed this position to find yy2bggggs's Ne5 move in the first place (not to mention that I also determined there's only one good move for Black).

whoa, you moved the queen clear off the board, and shifted the f-pawn over half a square.

What new rule is this that says you can alter the board's geometry?

Okay

My move, after 10. exd5, is

10. ...Apply transformation matrix [[5 0][0 5]] to the b- and c- files, and apply [[0.5 0 0.5]] as a scalar to white's RGB value.

Purple to move.

Now with the dual threats of Nc7+ and Nxb4, black's reply is pretty much forced.

wow, black has gotten themselves in a whole lot of trouble, but I cant be the one to respond to it.
Why put off till today what you could just as easily get done tomorrow?

I can mathematically prove that 1 equals 0!.

Parts a-x in my plan weren't that important anyways.

If I'm following this right, White is owning the center, way more developed than Black, doesn't have the queen out early, he's a pawn up, and threatening Nc7+, Bxg7, and who knows what else. His inability to castle hardly matters at all here. I take it engines are not allowed to play?

i don't want to move because i'm not sure what black's best move is, but i want to point out that white's going to use his knight to threaten both the king and the rook in his next move. if he's allowed to do that black's going to have to move out of check giving up his rook.

I think you're reading the diagram wrong. Capital letters are White, lowercase is Black. Like FEN. Right now it's Black's move (so screwed, that's why I think maybe Black should start using an engine).

Aw man, you edited your post so now I look like a fool who posted without even understanding the game!

Anyway, krazykate was reiterating that Nc7+ is threatened by white. Which means it's really important, and that 12. ...Bxe5 was simply not a good move (no offense, yy2bggggs!). I'm putting Fritz 6 with default settings on this position (I'm so cool) to find the best way to minimize black's losses, but I find it unlikely that engines would be allowed in this game. Or that Black could recover anyhow. Since this game is effectively over, should black resign? Has it already?
