### My number is bigger!

Almost as pointless as the Count to 1000 thread, this one doesn't require any particular increment between entries. The goal is to come up with a computable, finite, well-defined number that's bigger than the last poster's number. You can only use already established numbers and notations (the xkcd number counts, as does Graham's number. But you can't just one-up that by saying g_65 without defining the recursion here), and you can't refer directly to the previous number. (If I post a description D of some number x, your number can't be defined as D "+ 1". If it turns out to be D+1, fine. Just don't do anything like quoting the previous entry and putting +1 at the bottom.)

I'll start us off with nine thousand. Because we all know that anything over nine thousand is fucking unimaginably huge.

Edit: Also, if someone questions the size of your number, you have to be able to prove that it's really bigger than the previous one.

Unless stated otherwise, I do not care whether a statement, by itself, constitutes a persuasive political argument. I care whether it's true.

I laughed. A lot. I won't try to describe it more enthusiastically than that, though. It wouldn't live up to how funny I thought that was.

Infinity is not a real number, but in any case, I've edited the original post to require finite numbers. Also, well-defined, so narsil, you fail. Weight isn't a number unless you provide units.

yeah, I figured it wasn't a number... what I meant to say was 10^(10^(10^10))

I assumed that we were only dealing with real numbers. 2i > i doesn't make much sense. (I don't think. Maybe someone with a bit more knowledge than I can clarify how inequalities work with complex numbers.)

Is infinity computable in the first place? (Spare me. I know nothing about computers.)

Your forgot to close all those parentheses so your number is borked.

I think what you were going for was 10*10^5120 but maybe my understanding is limited.

No, I didn't count them, I used find & replace to change ^( for paragraph symbols and then just looked at the largest row number.

I contend Blatm's number is not well-defined. And if Twas was actually going for a mere 10^5120, that's weak.

In any case, the highest well-defined number still in play is 10^(10^(10^10))

10^5120 !=! 10^(10^(etc 512 times.)

Mine was the largest, but somebody had to go and delete it.

And I did remember to close my parenthesis - just one closing bracket, at the end of a statement, closes all of the previous brackets.

Okay, so your number was 10↑↑512. Definitely not 10^5120, but rather a 512-story power tower. Yes, much bigger than crazyjimbo's factorial number.

I'll go with 10↑↑↑3. Which is 10↑↑(10↑↑10), a power tower 10↑↑10 stories high (where 10↑↑10 is itself a power tower 10 stories high).

You have to apply log (base-10) to this number 10↑↑10 times (which is a lot) to get to 1.

In my previous post, D was hexadecimal for 13. I.e. 13^(13^(13....^13(^13))))))))))))) (13 times)

It's obviously no longer the largest number, though.

I'll go with 3^^^10 to trump gmalivuk's number. Things are getting big.

Okay, I figured it was either hex or Roman numerals. In the event that it might have been the second (500^^500), I figured I'd go way above and beyond by adding another arrow.

Ah I didn't think of that. You're right, I should have clarified. My bad.

So, I got tired of the fact that the appearance of my band name in my signature made my posts on this forum the dominant result when googling for my music. Anyway, if you think I might happen to be a good musician, you can test this theory here.

With that many up-arrows, the factorial doesn't actually contribute much, relatively speaking.

Anyway, you've got (back in decimal) (11→11→10)! x (11→11→9)!→(11→11→6)!→6. The multiplier is smaller than the multiplicand, so it's less than the multiplicand squared, which is far less than (11→11→9)!→(11→11→6)!→7. Each of those factorials contributes less than another up-arrow, so this is less than (11→11→10)→(11→11→7)→7, or (11→11→10)^^^^^^^(11→11→7).

Screw it. I want a more concisely represented number.

Rather big numbers with not too many up-arrows between them, meet the true power of chained arrow notation:
3→3→3→3 = 3→3→(3→3→27→2)→2. Which is well beyond the g_26th iteration of the sequence whose 64th element is Graham's number.
Unless stated otherwise, I do not care whether a statement, by itself, constitutes a persuasive political argument. I care whether it's true.
