Pure Nomic II

Postby flicky1991 » Tue Aug 14, 2012 6:32 pm UTC

Here is the first rule:

1. Any player can make a proposition, which changes something related to the state of the game, e.g. adding, editing, or removing a rule. A proposition is passed if it gets three "for" votes (the proposer is assumed to vote "for"), or removed if it gets three "against" votes.

Begin!

P.S. I'll be keeping track of the state of the game here.

Here's a proposition:

Each player starts with 0 points. A player wins the game, thus ending it, if they obtain 1000000 points or more.

(Then, hopefully, this game will last longer than the first one...)

Oh dear, it isn't stated that you can vote only once per rule.

I vote for proposition 1.
Passed.

Proposition the second: Rule abuse
I propose that orangedragonfire gains 1000 points.

I vote for proposition 2.
I vote for proposition 2.
I vote for proposition 2.
Passed.

Proposition the third: Voting system balancing
I propose that people may have several votes, and that the number of votes needed to pass or repeal a motion be raised to 5. If this motion is accepted, people get votes for the following:
Playing Pure Nomic II - 1 vote
Seniority (having posted on a page with lower number than half the current page) - 1 vote
Players may buy extra votes for 100000 points per vote
Votes may be used once on each proposal. If you do not mention how many votes you use, it is assumed that you use all your votes.

I vote for proposition 3.
I vote for proposition 3.
I vote for proposition 3.
Passed.

Could you add how many votes people have in the wiki?

Proposition the fourth: A rich and fertile land
I make a motion that there is a country called Nomica. All players of this game are citizens in that country. You start as a peasant, but may work your way up the social ladder if there are rules which allow it.
Votes: 2/5

You don't get given a vote for proposing it. Also, you already can't vote more than once according to rule 3: it says "Votes may be used once on each proposal."

Ah, my mistake... I only have 1 vote. I guess I worded the seniority clause badly; it'll only go into effect on page 3. After that, we'll have 2 votes each (those of us that posted on page 1, that is). Until then we'll just have to talk, or something, if we don't manage to attract more players.

Proposition for the establishment of elitism

Any player who has posted on a page with lower number than half the current page, may claim the title of "Lord"
Additionally, flicky1991 may claim the title "Founder of the Nomic"
orangedragonfire may claim the title "Balancer of the votes"
The title "Baron" may be purchased for a cost of 600 points.

EDIT: I vote in favour of orangedragonfire's Proposition the fourth: A rich and fertile land

but you did vote twice really as it's assumed you'll vote for your own proposal and the regular extra vote for playing.

The implied vote just means that I don't need to say that I vote for my motion, it does not give me an extra vote.

Well, the rules say we need 5 votes to decide a motion. Every player currently has one vote, so we'd need 5 players to decide a motion. From page three onwards, some players will gain an additional vote, so motions can be decided by fewer players.

Yeah, on page 3 only three of us ("us" meaning the ones who've posted so far) would need to vote for a motion to pass it.

Proposition to get the Nomic started

The number of votes required for a proposition to pass shall be lowered to 4 unless one or both of the following conditions have been met:
a) The post count for this thread is greater than 80.
b) At least 5 different posters vote for/against a single proposition within the space of a week
When one of these conditions is met, this rule shall be removed.

I vote in favour of this proposition
I buy an extra vote in favour for 100 000 points.

votes: 2 for/0 against

Proposition to grant emergency powers to save the Nomic

If at any point the total number of votes held by all the players who posted within a week is less than the minimum number of votes required to pass a new proposition, the number of votes required shall be reduced to equal to the number of votes held by the voters who posted within a week. This cannot reduce the required number of votes to below 2.

I vote in favour of this proposition
I buy an extra vote in favour for 100 000 points.

votes: 2 for/0 against

I now have -200 000 points

Proposition to get my money back from this expensive loophole

Dr. Diaphanous is awarded 1 001 000 points

I vote in favour of this proposition
I buy 4 extra votes in favour for 400 000 points.

proposition passed

I now have 401 000 points.

Proposition to close the loophole.
a) No player may buy anything that may be bought with points, including votes, if that would bring their total points below 0, or if their total points are already below or equal to zero.
b) No player may perform any action that would bring their total points below 0. This does not prohibit a rule or other player bringing the player's points below zero, if rules are created that would allow this. Nor does it prevent a player borrowing points from another player, provided both players consent to the transaction.
c) No proposition may be passed unless at least 2 different players have voted for it, regardless of how many votes each player has.

I vote in favour of this proposition
I buy 4 extra votes in favour for 400 000 points.

proposition passed

I now have 1000 points

Well done. There is just a slight problem... Votes bought with points are permanent. They can be used once per proposal. Which means that you now have 11 votes.

Proposition to correct the side-effects of the loophole.
I propose that the votes Dr. Diaphanous bought are declared void, so that he is returned to 1 voted.

Oh permanent? Not just a once-off vote? Oops.

Cool.

However,
Dr. Diaphanous wrote:c) No proposition may be passed unless at least 2 different players have voted for it, regardless of how many votes each player has.

Drat this rule. Now even with my vast number of votes I still can't get anything passed on my own.

I vote again in favour of orangedragonfire's Proposition the fourth: A rich and fertile land. Proposition passed

I vote 11 times against orangedragonfire's Proposition to correct the side-effects of the loophole. Proposition failed.

Proposition to give Dr. Diaphanous the recognition he deserves

Dr. Diaphanous has the title of "Perfect Master, Provost and Judge, High King of Nomica" and is granted an additional 1000 points.

The first player other than Dr. Diaphanous to vote in favour of this proposition gets the title "Privy Councillor, Secretary of the Star Chamber of Nomica" and 200 points.

I vote 11 times in favour of this proposition.

1 more vote needed
