I got my visa! So I'm going! Operation "Go over the ocean to meet bunch of people you met on the intertubes" is a go!

Thank you for your support! (And special thanks to Vaniver)

Am I going to be the farthest traveller on the meet-up? (From Moscow, Russia to Boston, US it is about 4400 miles I think)

Now I need to figure out how to get to Boston from NY. I think I'll use some kind of chinatown bus. Any other ideas?

Another problem is that my flight arrives to NY on 22nd in the evening (~8pm). So what's better: to go straight to Boston and spend a night there somewhere (where?) or to spend night in NY and go to Boston in the morning (I guess I'll be able to be on time for the meeting)?
From Russia with math.

I think someone said they were coming from Melbourne, Australia. That's almost as far away from Boston as physically possible (only Perth would be further).

From NYC you can get to Boston via:
- Amtrak train, either 'Regional' or more expensive 'Acela Express', from Penn Station
- Greyhound or Peter Pan bus from Port Authority Bus Terminal
- Chinatown bus (Fung Wah or Lucky Star), from Chinatown
- LimoLiner (expensive luxury mini-bus) from NY Hilton Hotel

Chinatown buses have had their safety problems lately -- I'd pay the higher price for a different option.

What kind of safety problems are you talking about?

Nothing too serious... just ramming into other vehicles/rolling over. Though, for the number of busses those guys run (every hour from 7 am to 11 pm), the number of incidents seems low to me. The attractions of the Chinatown busses are they're cheap (Fung Wah is $15), fast, and a thrill ride.

I used a chinatown bus once from DC to NY. Slept through most of it.

But then, what's life without a little excitement? I still take Fung Wah when I go to NYC. Which isn't often.
