Shut up, we have at least 2 more weeks to do this before we are old news and people can start getting annoyed by it.

Would anyone be interested in Shakespeare in the Park the night before? It's Twelfth Night this year, which is one of my favorites.
I'll probably be in the city that day, anyway, stay over @ my Gram's in Brooklyn Heights, spend Saturday morning with her and meet up with everyone whenever is decided.

Okay so apparently my sister is coming into the city on Saturday night, so hendu and I are having dinner with her. Should we just meet for drinks at 9 then? Does that work for people?
une see wrote:I am like...4 years too young to drink (legally). :(
If you can come you should anyway! I probably won't even be drinking since I don't like beer, and I think since it's a restaurant you don't need to be legal to get in.

I'm staying in Manhattan. Which airport is better to fly into, or does it make much difference. Baggage, Traffic, Taxi......Thanks.

I always fly into Newark -- take NJTransit into Penn Station. It'll take you 20 and $7 minutes to midtown, as opposed to 40 minutes in a cab from JFK or an hour from La Guardia.

Agreed, Newark is faster to Manhattan and usually cheaper to fly into as well. From there you find the Airtrain, take that to the NJ Transit train to New York Penn Station, and take a cab (or subway if you don't have a lot of stuff) to your hotel. It sounds more complicated than it is :)

I've always flown in JFK, but we head towards Long Island.
Although, from JFK, it's Airtrain to Jamaica, then the LIRR to Penn Station. $5 for the Airtrain, and then either $3 (Saturdays or Sundays w/ City Ticket) or $6 (other off-peak times).
Also, it looks like there are plenty of busses from LGA to subway terminals, and from there into Manhatten.
If I were you, I'd base where I'd fly into on ticket prices, it's easy enough to get into the city via mass transit from all three airports. This is assuming that you're not lugging around giant pieces of luggage, any of the options should be manageable - I know the JFK-Airtrain-Jamaica route definitely is.

Thanks everyone, I'm just flying in and grabbing a cab. I've had enough planes, trains, autos to last for a good while. Just make plans for Fri and or Sat. any time works for me except Sat. early afternoon. Cheers!

Yeah... if there's no traffic, I'll be in NY around 10ish. But, I'm leaving in the middle of Boston's rush hour. So probably more like 11.

New idea: how about a New York area movie club? I'm not sure how this would proceed -- we could either check out movies at theaters as they come out, or we could gather at somebody's place and watch movies there. Either way, it could be pretty sweet.

I just signed up/logged in on the Delacourt's Virtual Line, which gives me a chance at two tickets for tonight's show. If I get them, I'm definitely coming in and seeing the show tonight, even if it means bringing raingear and plastic bags to sit on. I don't think I'll be going with anyone, so my second ticket is probably up for grabs. Anyone else who's interested should probably try for the Virtual line too, saves waiting outside.

Also, if I get tickets, I'm probably going to come in a little early, stop @ my Gram's place, say hello, maybe have a late lunch and get her keys so I can stay over on her couch tonight. Which means I have all day in the city tomorrow without having to pay the ridiculous LIRR fare twice.
I'll probably be able to escape in time to swing by the Heartland before the show tonight, but there's no guarantee of that; are we still planning on all meeting up tomorrow night? If I end up going in tonight, I probably won't bring my laptop, which means no internet access — should we exchange cell #'s?

Didn't get tickets for tonight, so I'm probably not coming in. But I definitely would be interested in doing something tomorrow — I know The Cat said he was interested in hitting some of the museums, which I'd definitely be into, I'd just need to know where & when so I can hop a train.

Anne Hathaway made a surprisingly good Viola (I thought). She sings rather well *was taken aback*

I'm going to be seeing the one in August as well (The Bacchae), so if anyone wants to camp out with me in August, that would be super awesome!

The beach? With wine & cheese? Such a classy-sounding beach trip is utterly foreign to my experience. I'm totally in.

Afraid I can't help you on that front, all of my wine knowledge comes from browsing the Whole Foods and reading their information cards. On the "Great Wines under $10" section.
And I'm not picky about my cheese, I like most kinds. Although good smoked Gouda is goddamn wonderful. Especially with beer.
So I volunteer to bring beer. Abita, specifically. Probably the Amber and Purple Haze, possibly the Strawberry Fest or Satsuma if they have it, but I'm definitely open to taking requests, there's a beer store near me that carries it.
