Oh, I'm not really that close to Stonybrook (I live in Jericho, which is in Nassau County). Although I visited once with my brother when he was applying there. I think he got in, but he didn't go because it was too close to home. Instead he went to Duke, which is a respectable distance from his annoying family.

Couldn't agree more. It's a family tradition for us to go halfway across the country to school.

What about spring break? I don't know when everyone else has it (for those who are still in school), but I have a week off next month. I think the week of February 18th...That might be a good time, since it will probably be much warmer then.

Fake edit: No, wait...that's not spring break. February is still winter...Maybe it's President's Day then? I guess so. Oh, so then my spring break is in April. Probably.

Another potential meetup: MoMa has a new nerdy exhibit called Design and the Elastic Mind: http://moma.org/exhibitions/2008/elasticmind/

Kind of like art for transhumans. Only drawback is MoMa is a bit more expensive then the Met.

Freezepop is playing in New York on Friday, June 27 at The Annex.

We all love Guitar Hero and nerdpop... why not make it the focus of an XKCD meetup in New York? Tickets will probably cost $10-$15. "T3h awkward" busting drinks and/or socializing can happen before the concert.

What do you think?

Freezepop is totally happening. I'll be coming from Boston on a Chinatown bus. I haven't decided what time yet, so if any of you NYCers know of a decent place to meet at a decent time before the concert, I will be there.

Agree with Cor: two meetups are entirely doable.

Also: I just found out that I get free passes/discounts to a bunch of museums and stuff from work, so tell me what you're interested in. It may be hard to get large groups in (I think the limit is 4 for most places), but to quote those annoying Tesco ads, every little bit helps.

Hey guys, you're awesome, do you know that?

So, I am in NYC from saturday, the 5th of July until including thursday the 10th of july 2008, I just checked the dates. Wednesday, the 9th of July is excludes because there is already a trip to Washington D.C. planned for that day. (cool stuff, see the white house

)

My birthday is actually on the 4th of september but we got the flight earlier so we could do it in my summer holidays.

So, you guys tell me. When and where? You know the city, you know what's cool! And you tell me when because I got all day anyway so it's up to you. Maybe we can go to some really cool band or do funny stuff in the city or go for a pizza. (Hmm, American Pizza, hmmm) I'm in anyway.

If there's going to be another meetup other than the Freezepop concert (since I'm not 21 either

), I'm pretty sure I can go! Although I do have to be a camp counselor at some Buddhist camp in upstate New York (even though I'm not Buddhist) sometime in the beginning of July. I will be Pooh-with-no-honey sad if I have to miss two NYC xkcd meetups.
