Did the proposition to set up a Little Britain in NYC ever come to fruition? I have a friend there who was kind of upset how Chinatown is encroaching on Little Italy (he's of German/Jewish extraction, so I don't know why he's so upset), but in order to not be so homesick, I demand a slice of NYC to incorporate red telephone boxes, black taxicabs, stately palaces, and gentrified elite in top hats and tails, popping their monocles into snifters of brandy at every small surprise.

Hendu and I will be in NYC that weekend! Meeeeetuppp

Also I am really good at pagetopping in this thread apparently. 4 of the last 5 pages.

Figures that I'll actually be leaving New York on the 10th and coming back around the 15th.

There's a slim chance I could meet up on the 10th. I'd rather like to put my suspicions to rest that you're actually a leprechaun.

I was there for this.

I vote for an alternate ending that involves actually meeting Felstaff this time round.

I shall actually be missing the Seattle meetup because I'll be in the NY area at this time. Doubt I'll be able to make it, though.

So it looks like I can either do a latelate Friday night (like post-10pm ish), or Saturday afternoon/evening thing.

Pffft. As if Manhattan has anything to do on a Friday night.

It's unlikely that I'll have any means of mobile communication, so anything planned will have to have the old-fashioned date/time/place/what are you wearing? combo posted here for posterity.

DOUBLE POST! DON'T JUDGE ME

Also, it's England Vs. USA in the Soccerfootball World Cup at 2.30pm on Saturday (your time). I may perhaps would like to watch this on a public bar's televisual equipment. Any takers?

If not; at least does anybody know of any downtown Manhattan bars that would be showing such a spectacle?

I would totally go to a bar and watch footballsoccer. We have a concert to go to at 6:30 on Saturday, but before that we can do a thing! We went to a tavern a few weeks ago that was up for changing the channels on their TV, so maybe that one. Hopefully hendu will jump in with the name and stuff because I don't remember.

That tavern was pretty awesome, very uncrowded (was a Sunday afternoon), and had fantastic burgers. The beer selection could have been better, but there was perfectly drinkable stuff on it. There are a number of TVs, and they are totally willing to put on any game you want. I think when we were there, they were showing a few baseball games, a soccer game, and an ATV race.

It was the Barrow Street Alehouse, at 15 Barrow Street. http://www.barrowstreetalehouse.com/

It's also less than a 5 minute walk from the place lanicita and I are going for that concert, so that's a bonus for us. A short walk from the W 4th St subway station, too.

Yes, the place that hendu linked is probably a good place for it! Shall we say Barrow St Alehouse (it's in the West Village so make sure you have good directions because the streets are wacky around there), Saturday 2:30ish? Depending how many people come, we might need two booths. Let's see, we have Felstaff, hendu, lazarus and me. I'll assume Clinton too. Anyone else?

For reference: I am a brownhead girl, likely wearing an adorable dress and sitting next to the boy with the dreambeard.

whelp. I'm back here in the Ulysses bar. Anyone around? i'm wearing a white shirt.

Saturday Barrow St Bar you say? The match is at 2.30 so I'm going to be there at 1.30-2ish :-)

Edit: I'm now heading off to the patriot, 110 Chambers St, for a night o' heavy drinkin!

Edit 2; turns out I'm heading into Queens for a night o' heavy drinkin!

ACK! I was about to post something about how I think Barrow St will be a shitshow tomorrow, but then I realized that might not be true at all. I mean, with the World Cup there are bound to be quite a few people everywhere, but I bet it'll be aight. Plus they have Big Buck Hunter downstairs. I'll be there provided my goddamn stomach cooperates.

cool beans. According to my ESPN thingy the match starts at 1.30? I'll be there at 1 anyhow. See... See you there?

I'm posting from Hell's Kitchen. It's pretty awesome. There's live jazz playing at Bar 9 on 9th ave and i'm enjoying the sunshine.

I'm going to be at Woody's on Wild West 14th St. Tonight at 11.30 so if anyone wants to meet me for v. Late drinks, it will be lovely to see you.

Well, Barrow Street didn't make the NY Times' or Time Out NY's list of places to watch the World Cup, so at least we know it won't be one of the absolute most crowded bars in the city?

We will probably show up about an hour and a half after whenever we happen to wake up.

Hi guys. I'm heading off to the Barrow Street Alehouse now :) I'm wearing a white tee-shirt saying 'Final Tie' on it, dark blue jeans and mid-blue trainers (if I had done a few more of Randall's colour survey, I probably would have come up with better colour names... Aquamarine/prussian blue jeans and cobalt/azure sneakers?), and I'll be there in about an hour? Just having a quick shower at the hotel first and then heading off.

I'll be cheering on England and booing the USA. Turns out, it does start at 2.30pm local time.

Hello, I've been a very long time reader of the comics and browser of the fora but just joined after finding (and subsequently catching completely up on) the xkcdsw thread. I figured, with my new account, and the fact that I live in NYC, I'd see if I could resurrect this nigh-dead thread.

Where the new yorkers at? I'd love to see a meetup happen in the area!

Argh, I missed meeting the illustrious Felstaff in person by not watching this thread carefully. Drat! I'll have to watch this thread more carefully.

Hey Y'all, I'm in New york from March 26- April 3rd. I probably won't be available for a meet up(sorry), but would appreciate any insider knowledge on where's good to go/what's good to do. I'm 18 and staying in manhattan, about 10 mins north of central park.

I'm probs going to be in NYC April 15-17 for a summit for young adults with/survivors of cancer, if I get off the wait list. I will be available April 15 afternoon/night, Sat nigh dinner (and possibly later if I don't get off the booze cruise waitlist), and maaaaaaybe a little Sunday afternoon. I have college friends to see during those times as well. Also, if anyone wants to let me couch surf. ;)

I work in NYC so I know the area quite well. While I live outside of the city (Jersey) and would unlikely be able to host anyone, shoot me a message if you want suggestions on where to go (on whatever type of budget you've got) and what to see; I should be able to give a few pointers in the least.

So I will be out here through November, and would love to meet up with folks. On August 11th there will be a Story Collider at Pacific Standard in Brooklyn. This is a great storytelling event run by a pair of particle physicists. The event itself is free, and the bar is close to both the subway and the LIRR.
Anyone else interested?

I am doing this! I do not know when or specifically what, yet, but as I'm unemployed at the moment, probably set up on Thursday/Friday, which also gets me a weekend pass. So I will probably be at a significant portion of Maker Faire!

EDIT: I'll be working with the Sidekick Crew, in the Learn to Solder tent/area on both Saturday & Sunday. And then set-up on Friday.

Is anyone else going?
